Why Your Writing Voice Matters More Than You Think!

A few months ago, when I was looking back at some of my earliest posts, I thought to myself, my God.. what were you thinking that day Chris!! The thing that made me laugh the most was how hard I was trying to sound “professional.”
I was writing like I was trying to impress someone. You know, the long sentences, clever words, and in a tone that was just not me at all. If you are in your early stages here at WA, you might be doing exactly the same thing I was without even realising it.
Well, your writing voice matters far more than people think. Now it doesnt need to be perfect, but it does need to sound real and believable!
Most people online are not looking for a textbook to read. They want to read something written by a person. Someone they can relate to. Someone who sounds like they actually use the things they recommend and someone whose style comes across as human and honest.
When you write with your normal voice, people notice that. It makes your content a lot easier to read, and it keeps visitors on your site for longer because they feel like youre talking to them instead of talking at them.
One thing that helped me was noticing how I naturally talk about my topics in real life.
If I try to explain something to one of my friends, I do not use complicated phrases. I dont try to sound like someone in a documentary. If I did, Im sure my friend would tell me to get the hell out :)
So I just talk normally. And when I started writing more like that, everything began to feel easier.
It also becomes easier to write consistently when you stop forcing a style that isnt yours. I used to rewrite paragraphs over and over again trying to make them sound “right,” but the truth was that I was only making things harder for myself.

When I decided just to write the way I speak, the words came out faster and more naturally.
Another thing I noticed is that your writing voice comes with practice. You wont get it perfect straight away. And to be honest, you shouldnt try to. Every post you write teaches you something. You start noticing which sentences feel too much, which ones sound awkward, and which ones flow a little better.
Bit by bit, your voice becomes clearer without you even thinking about it.

Your writing voice also helps you stand out more. There are thousands of websites talking about the same topics, but none of those sites have you. Many of them now are made completely by AI, which is unfortunate.
People remember your tone, your little habits and the way you explain things. That is what brings them back. Your personality is part of your content whether you realise it or you dont.
Your audience doesnt expect you to be perfect. They expect honesty and a bit of personality. Small mistakes here and there don’t make your post any less useful. If anything, too much perfection can make things feel cold and distant. A natural tone will make your content more welcoming.
If youre still trying to “find your voice,” don’t overthink it.
Just try to write the way you normally speak. Keep everything simple. Imagine your reader is sitting across from you and you’re explaining something to them in a relaxed way. That is usually where your best writing comes from.
So yes, your writing voice matters. Not because it needs to make you sound clever, but because it gives your content a human touch.
And in a world full of these AI written posts everywhere, that human touch goes a long way.
How about you? Are you comfortable with the way you write now, or are you still trying to find the style that feels right for you?
Thanks for reading
Chris
