Word count is wrong

1.8K followers

Hello again everyone.
I have a problem inside my post editor inside wordpress.
I'm hoping someone else has encountered this before and can help me.

I logged in to my blog today to finish up an old post that I've been putting off.
I noticed at the bottom where it shows the "word count" that I had apparently written about 2,000 words. I knew this was not true and began looking for the problem.

I've been through the plugins and non of them seem to be causing it. I'm not sure what else it could be. I don't really mind the word count being off but I'm concerned it will cause problems in other areas of the site.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

Ok, that what I was hoping you guys would say.

I know word count should not play a factor in my writing but I was afraid if google crawled the site expecting to see 3,00 words and only got 300 I'd be in the sandbox.

Google sandbox is not a place I want to be. :P Thanks alot for your help

Google doesn't require any particular number of words, they want REAL content that is helpful. If you have something to say that is genuine and helpful but isn't 300 words, that's fine. But the more detail you provide the better it will be for your audience. It's hard to get an idea across to people in less than 300 words, but sometimes you can. The idea is to write naturally. If every post on your site had 100 words, you would have very little content and it would be a pretty unhelpful site. I'm sure that some of your articles will end up having 1000's of words after comments are taken into consideration.

Bottom line, just write and focus on offering content that clearly delivers your message.

It says 0 for every site that I've seen, so this looks like a WordPress bug, or perhaps a browser bug as I've only tested in Chrome. Word count means nothing, so don't bother even looking at it. Quality over Quantity, so just write naturally and get your point across to your visitors. You do not want all of your content to have a similar word count anyway as it looks unnatural.

I'm sure this will be corrected in a future WordPress update.

Have never even looked at the word count thingy - and don't worry even if it is wrong it will have no effect on your site
