What am I doing wrong?
are you adding hte amazon link with a custom html block....
adding either the image or image and text amazon links must be done with hte custom html block...
the text link can be added as a normal link to some text...
when it the editor for your post on your website...
click on the + at the top left...
in the box that comes up type in custom html
and click on the custom html icon...
this will place a html box wherever the cursor was in your text...
if you want to move it then click on the html box in the text and a menu will appear with up/down arrows...
clicking up moves it up and clicking down will move it down the page...
I do that but my question is why does my personal Amazon acct. with name and shipping address come up?

You usually need content and traffic before you an apply for affiliate programs as they would check those elements prior approval.
It is fairly easy to get Amazon Associates however you still need to attain the three sales in 180 days.
I would write quality succinct content addressing issues in relation to my niche with a good choice of targeted searchable keywords worthy of your visitors attention, onward sharing onto social media platforms for organic outreach.
I guess I misunderstood - during the training modules - it would say to link an affiliate link to my website post - but I wasn't confident to post it yet because I was confused. Thank you for your input - now I will just post my drafts and keep creating. "It is just hard to add links after it is posted" is what I heard in one of the videos... On to my next post!!
To be honest I would let your posts marinate in the search engines before turning then into commercial intent. That's my suggestion. The aim here to get traffic and once you start getting it, you can then monetize it. And so I primarily forward to creating content that can tremendously help your visitors. I hope this makes sense.
