The Struggling Dylsexic - Short Story
Htis is hte srtoy of het sutrgglngi dsyleixc. Osme Htinsg ewre esya ofr ihm and ohetrs weer a sutrgleg.
There are a number of things that dyslexic people have to do in order to be satisfactory to the internet. You have to think, how often do you read something incorrectly and not notice. Sometimes you read something and end up not replying with the right answer because you understood it differently. But this is not just every once in awhile, this is constant, and sometimes it seems easier to read "hist" instead of "this".
For me I never got off the hook with it. I was never diagnosed so I never got to skip out on things in school. With that in mind I had to create my own shortcuts and rules to be better at writing and reading. Which have only helped me to grow.
Short-Cuts
There is no way I can prevent screw ups. Every time I even write things I tend to be missing letters of putting them in weird goofy spots. I'm glad im not also OCD or this would drive me nuts. So instead of surprising myself with an entire article full of gibberish to you, I reread and retype each sentence as I go, several times. Maybe it's not a shortcut to some but it is a lot quicker to me than a full article.
Reading is trouble to me sometimes. Not much, it's truly not that hard to read. Just sometimes I find myself puttings words in a different order. "So instead of reading this" I find myself reading "instead so reading of this". Then I'm just like, "well that makes no sense". So yes that does mean I am a slightly slower reader than most people! Although it doesn't happen every time, and I can figure out these word puzzles fairly quick, it's not all that much slower.
Speaking is totally different. Oh boy, do I create some cool new words. If I made a dictionary of my own there would be nearly 10,000 or more new words. It's not that I don't focus on what I am saying, I do. It's all about when I say something I usually have a laundry list of words that mean the same thing. When that happens I tend to combine the words into a more Ultimate word. I haven't learned any shortcuts for this, so I tend to not say long sentences.
Rules For The Struggler:
- No long sentences when speaking
- Reread 20-40 times to ensure absolute correctness
- Use handy shortcuts like the ABC checker
- Read and write slowly
- Correct as you go
- Accept It
These are just things I follow when I read, write, or speak. I have no clue what other people with dyslexia have to go threw because I've never met anyone else who's had it. It's a simple list but can constantly be in the way. However, I love writing, it's one of the best ways I can actually get things off my chest and express who I am.
Accept It
This was truly the hardest for me to accept for awhile. I hated it for the longest but eventually understood that is me and I can just be funny and no one will notice. Or everyone will notice and it will be funny.
Not everything goes your way from the start. Make it your super power. Whatever holds you back accept it. If that is you, then deal with it, or it will eat you up even more.
If you except perfection then I guarentee you'll avoid it. Acceptance is the first step on improving whatever it is holding you back. Only you can limit yourself, grow, and conquer.
Ultimately, the shortcuts and rules have helped me to become better at everything I struggle with. If I didn't ever set them and work on them I would have never thought I could be writing as well as I do now and accepting who I am.
Nothing Stands In The Way
Well except YOU. I'm a strong believer in, "everything is possible". You set your limitations and only you can break them.
If anything is standing in your way then serious think about accepting it so you can get better at it. If you don't think it is a problem then what is stopping you from getting better? Nothing right?
Any problem can be solved and there are a million places you can go for answers so don't ever hold back.
Hope you guys liked this short little thing. Just wanted to give a few words of encouragement for those in need. You can share some of your struggles in the comments too and maybe you might find your answer here.

I love those rules especially numbers 2 and 6- reread 20-40 times and accept it- it is hard at times but the joy at the end of it when it is done and when it pays off, from all the testimonials here it will for sure for those who stick at it and do it well, is awesome.
Let the perseverance endure and never give in to failure. To Success!!!
Haha, they are good rules for anyone to be following. I definitely agree with you, with the number of testimonials that have been successful, it seems impossible not to achieve it.
To success! May we grow ever more!
No problem. There is a small cursor to the right of each comment (almost invisible due to it being as white as the background), I saw this one time and just clicked it, it allows you to edit your comments without having to make another post lol
Sweet I was wondering why there was no place to edit comments. I never even noticed it, haha.
Thank you very much for that!
Good morning Jeff!
Wish you an amazing week ahead too!
