Let me give you just a bit of a back story to my social media life just a few years ago. Then we can get into how to use Twitter for beginners to generate brand awareness.

Considering that I am a beginner myself, I would say I have done pretty good, for a start. I have never used Twitter before joining Wealthy Affiliate. Social media is my little puppy. I know how to train it to do amazing tricks pretty fast.

Life Before WA

I didn't use social media for just any purpose, well actually I did for awhile. Then I learned that I could actually make money off of it.

Instagram was the beginning of massive growth. The picture to the right was the main account I used for awhile. That one account used to have over 15,000 followers but I stopped using it. Which is why it is important to stay active. Otherwise, it just keeps dropping.

Before I got into WA I used to be a small sponsor for vaping products. I would email many companies in the niche and I would get tons of free products and even money for simple pictures. They were bad and horrible pictures! Guess what though? That didn't matter at all but definitely helps a ton if they are better quality.

If you check this Instagram account you can see that I have under 100 posts too. Everything was about trends. When to post, what to post, and what to add to a post. Although things have changed with Instagram and I no longer like it, all is the same, with all social media.

Twitter For A Month

Twitter is new to me and I have only used it for 1 month now, well 20 days. This isn't my biggest concern, which is why I don't have thousands of followers yet, as I have been prioritizing posting on my blog. I thought that maybe there are some things that can help make all of your time on social media easier.

To the right is my business account for Twitter. You can see I have a small following. Most of the tips you learn through the training here are spot on with how to do things. Although there might just be one or two things I do to spice it up a notch.

Now lets get into to tips I use and have used in the past that still work.

Tricks & Tips For Social Media

Your own #hashtag

Your own hashtag can go a long way. Something unique and something that isn't exactly accurate can work pretty well. More than likely you want to stick with something that relates to your niche and use it on almost every post. That way all of your posts are in multiple categories. People click on your hashtags too so that way they will see all of your posts even if they don't view your page. Example to the right is one I created about pudding. It is actually jello. Which is why I have so many likes, it's funny in a way, and unique. #thepuddingisreal
This photo was from a different account I had made with only 2,000 followers.

Following and unfollowing

This is a great tactic if you don't go wild with it. What I usually do is:

  • Follow 50 people
  • Wait a day or 2
  • Unfollow anyone that didn't follow
  • Wait a day
  • Repeat above

Once people follow you they are stuck with you until they unfollow you. Any time you post, especially if they don't have a lot of followers, will show up on their feed. Now they are seeing you more than once and every time you post.

Here is a mobile app I used to know which people are following and are not. Along with anyone that unfollows which happens. It is called "Followers Analyzer for Twitter" it's free on your phone.

One con of this app is you can only unfollow 10 people at a time but it gives those who still aren't following a bit longer to follow you. This can be a good thing too because you want to go slow.

Different types of posts & the best for engagement

We should all know that this is mandatory. You can share links of your posts, simple to complex photos, or even polls. Polls are the most engaging which is why I recommend doing one at least every month. It can be super simple too. Example above is a day old poll that has given me exceptional impressions and engagement. I could've added other things but also including "something else" means those that choose it are more likely to comment.

#Hasttags within the post description

This is more intriguing to people. To the right is an example of using this trick. Many people don't like seeing a bunch of hashtags all at the bottom of your posts. A good way to increase amount of views is with hashtags though. Stick with at max 6 because it looks better. Sometimes the words you use are popular hashtags. Just put # next to the popular word and boom, it looks readable, and it doesn't take away from the message. I could've also done #immersion in the first sentence and eliminated it from the bottom.

Spelling things rong

This one is funny because a lot of people actually hate it so much that they will comment to correct you. I advise if you do this then try to be funny with it. It only works if it makes sense perfectly so don't just do it because I said so. #Sharpnel is not how you spell shrapnel but it gathers attention.

Funny pictures or very HD pictures & words

People are interested in cool things and funny things. If you are neither of these things and all professional then you are boring. Even big name companies posts some funny stuff. I've learned that photos can have a huge impact but your words top it off. For example in the game Hearthstone, not going into huge detail about the game, there are several characters. One character is a demonhunter with a weird name that I won't mention. Something funny to say would be "I love hearthstone, especially that demon who's named hunter." This is funny to those that know the game and intriguing to those that don't.

Women

It is true women draw more attention then men. Back when I was using Instagram I knew this so I asked my girlfriend at the time to promote my pictures, of course she agreed for me. On average her pictures received more feedback and likes than most of mine.

Reaching out to other brands

This may not always work but is worth a try every once in awhile. Other brands in your niche are more likely to comment and like and retweet your everything. You are basically letting them know you exist and that you are real. Sometimes they might even want to work with you or simple help you by retweeting, liking, commenting. Each time any of this happens you are connected to their page and gain more attraction.

Commenting on other posts

Like I said above liking, retweeting, commenting all have an effect. Each comment you post shows up in your feed. Each like shows up in your feed. Each retweet shows up in your feed. So how does this help you? Well by commenting on others posts you gain the ability to have that comment gain impressions and likes. If someone likes what you say, you show up under their account. Each comment has the ability to gain traction just like any post. The more likes the more accounts you are under.

Below are all comments and there stats, impressions, clicks, and engagement %

Posting at least once a day

People like when you are present. If you post everyday people show up every day. Easy enough.

Be bias in a way

Like they say in the training you need to be bias to a certain extent. You want people to be engaged so if you throw in something like, "tortillas are better for tacos than hard shells will ever be." Then now you have the people who prefer hard shells racing over to tell you that you are incredibly wrong. This gets comments from people who agree and disagree, it gets likes mainly for the people that agree, and gets retweets by both ends because they want to prove you wrong or simply liked the post.

Guaranteed To Work To An Extent

My 20 day progress report on Twitter. ^^

I can't promise you anything but I can tell you if it wasn't for these tricks I wouldn't have been so influential on Instagram and now Twitter. Back in high school I started this because someone bet that I couldn't. No one believed I could get this many followers and I'm the type to prove everyone wrong. They helped me in a way to learn what I needed for growth on social media and I used it well.

Now I want you all to learn about these tips and if you have any questions feel free to ask away and I will do my best to bump you up a notch. You can also private message me if you have more elaborate detailed questions.
