Have You Heard Of Bernard Coffindaffer?
When I was driving truck over the road I used to see this site quite frequently!
Three crosses and each time I saw them they looked exactly the same!
I mean it is not like I had never seen such a sight, but as I would see them in state after state and all exactly the same I knew there had to be a story behind them!
I used to collect postcards of the places I saw as I drove and one day I came across a postcard that introduced me to Bernard Coffindaffer!
Bernard was born in 1925, he became an orphan at the age of ten, and he graduated from high school at the age of fourteen. He served six years in the U. S. Marines with duty In the Pacific, Iwo Jima, and Nagasaki, Japan. After returning home he became a college graduate. He then started his own business and became a successful businessman in the mountains of West Virginia which was quite an accomplishment!
At forty-two he became a Christian and then a minister. Then after two heart bypass surgeries he liquidated his business.
Two years later he had a vision and was led to put these crosses across the country to be seen by people as they drove the highways. There are over two thousand crosses that are in twenty-nine states, the District of Columbia, and Zambia and the Philippines as well. They are always on private land with granted permission and they are always maintained!
He spent three million dollars doing this in the final years of his life all to spread the message of the Love we celebrate today!
Please remember that Love is a precious gift!
We have all heard the phrase Freedom Isn't Free! Well Love Isn't Free either, because True Love from the Heart is always a gift of self sacrifice! Someone giving of themselves for another!
So remember to cherish those who give of themselves to Love you this day and remember there is one who has always Loved you, still Loves you and always will Love you!

Resurrection is more appropriate, considering the actual origin of Easter. something I only recently learned.
Yes, I learned long ago of ishtar and decided to teach the children to call it Resurrection Day instead! I have been quite Blessed to see many upon asking me why I call it Resurrection Day begin to do the same! :)
Daddy tried to tell us when we were growing up but...he was just one voice, there were far more people saying the opposite.
I've seen these crosses, Christina. Thank you for explaining their origin. That makes them even more important to me!
Did not know this story. When I lived in the states, I remember seeing crosses off the highway. You can't help but feel reverence and love in your heart when you see them. Thank you for sharing this beautiful post and reminding us all how precious love it. Blessed Good Friday to you as well!
