Mistakes are Part of the Learning Curve - Use Them to Good Effect

Hi Everyone

Recently I decided to go back over some of Kyle's training in Bootcamp, and when I looked at Course 2, Lesson 2, I realised that I had omitted to do one really important task:

4. Centralize your Wealthy Affiliate offer (link to the review page where applicable)

OOOPs!!!! Big mistake!!

So I went back to my website and checked it.

Sure enough, I had links to WA on every post, in many cases more than once

This was surely going to be an almost Herculean task, as I have a fairly large number of posts!

So I decided that whilst I was doing that, I would try to improve my posts in other ways too, by

  • Adding more content where relevant, and updating it.
  • Changing the Heading tags as so many members have advised in their trainings and posts.
  • Checking ALL of my links to make sure they still went where I wanted - this was a really useful exercise as I discovered that some of the content elsewhere to which I had linked was no longer available.
  • And of course re-directing a substantial number of WA links away from WA itself and towards my new landing page and to relevant WA posts of mine.

All this took very many hours, added to the many hours I had already spent designing a new Website banner and creating a landing page as a static front page and creating a new link to my blog roll! That involved a good while learning how to use Pixlr and Canva too in order to create those!

Phew!!

At last I have finished that almost to my satisfaction, but not quite as I just could not figure out how to make my landing page exactly as I wanted it!!

So What Have I learned from This?

Several things, and I should like to share some of them with you, in case you may find them applicable to you too!

  • When going through the trainings, don't skim through them and make sure that you have completed ALL the tasks for each lesson!
  • Use WA links exactly as Kyle says!!
  • If you subsequently learn something else that you should do with your posts, do it straight away, and don't leave it until changing them becomes a marathon task, like I did!!
  • Make a habit of checking all of your links by viewing your page BEFORE publishing. (Actually this is one thing that I DO always do!!)
  • Regularly re-check all of your links to make sure that they still work. This is particularly important with product links, as it is very possible that some too the things you are promoting may have become unavailable.

What does All This Prove?

Simply that we just never stop learning!! Nor should we!

We may think that we have everything set up just fine, and then some comment, blog or training here at Wealthy Affiliate may make us realise that there are things that we need to change in order to make our websites more effective.

And how brilliant is that?!?

It really makes me wonder how other marketers manage without the help and inspiration which is here at Wealthy Affiliate?

How extremely fortunate we members are to have all of this superb training and encouragement here at our fingertips!

I do hope that some of my mistakes that I have pointed out here may prevent other people from making similar ones, thus saving you much precious time!

But we should never be afraid to make mistakes so long as we make sure that we DO learn from them!

Thank you so much for reading this if you have stuck with me this far, and please do feel free to comment on it!

As ever, I wish you all a great, positive and productive day :)

I too go over what I had covered. It's like watching a film more than once...there's always something you miss :)

Also working on that by updating a post a day. Skipped a lot of the training in the beginning, not good. Thanks for the reminder, Deanna

I fixed it at the time lol! I was one of those people that went nuts with links and banners, I really thought that lesson was well done and I learned from it as well. Some of my pages have no links to WA other than in my last statement for contact me at my wa profile--it was a lesson well learned! It didn't take me quite as long to fix since I had just started (I'm very thankful for this) but it was still time consuming. At least even Kyle allows us to make our own mistakes, and it really is a learning curve! Thanks for the blog I really enjoyed it! Best Wishes!!

Thank you so much Deborah :)

The only thing we can expect from life is change. So we might as well flow with it
