Finally Writing For Myself
I've been a freelance writer and ghostwriter for a few years now. I began my journey into online writing as a means to pay for my kids' college. At the time, I was a teacher, teaching high school during the day and college at night. And, I still couldn't afford to pay to send my oldest to college.
So, I looked for a way to make money online because I was already so busy teaching. I was jazzed when I came across freelance writing. It was right up my alley as an English teacher. I quickly learned the ins and outs, and in no time I was making money as a freelance writer.
Over the years, even though I became successful as a freelance writer, I became dissatisfied.
Why you might ask? Everything I wrote, I wrote for someone else. They owned the intellectual property. I felt like I built up their success and not mine.
While I got paid to write a blog post, they were making passive income off my hard work. While I got paid well ( and over the years I began charging more and more) to write an ebook, they were earning royalties on Kindle. Basically, I worked hard, and someone else reaped the benefits.
Even worse, when asked what I do, I couldn't point to physical proof. Sure, I have a few that I've been given permission to use in my portfolio. But, the majority have a non-disclosure agreement attached to it.
Actually, there's 10 ebooks that are doing real well, and I don't even get the credit. I know, I know- I signed up for that. But, it began to eat away at me.
Then, I came across Wealthy Affiliate. Actually, I came across and sat on it for a while. It wasn't until this condundrum bugged me enough that I did something about.
Now, I own my own website! I can show it to friends and family. Even better, they can follow me and share it on social media.
It's my intellectual property. I love knowing that people know that I wrote a post. It's my words!
I'm finally writing for myself. I'm the one getting the affiliate commission. I'm the one getting the credit.
And, it's awesome.
It was time for a change. And, that change was good. All it took was me acting on my dreams. Yes, there is excellent opportunity with affiliate marketing and your own website. But, it takes you acting. You have to do the work.
Act out on your dreams and reap the rewards!

I understand exactly what you mean. I used to write for several article sites. But ultimately, they were the ones who took the article and ran with it and I never saw it again because like you said, there were disclosure rights involved.
It was a world of difference when I began writing books for myself and then stumbled onto Wealthy Affiliate.
I don't begrudge everything about writing for others as I did because it taught me a lot about writing in general.
Now we can both write on Wealthy Affiliate for ourselves and reap the rewards forever.
Best of luck in your new venture.
