Thank you for mentioning childs theme's I had no idea about that. Good to know that changes that you make to a themes files will get replaced by an update and making a childs theme is a way around that. Learn something new everyday.
I used blocomo as my childs theme for twenty twelve. It serves my purpose and how I want my website to look.
