What a Trip!
What a trip it's been. When I started the 7 day free trial, I was quite sceptical about Wealthy Affiliate, there's so many 'get rich quick' sites out there, that I was reasonably sure this would be another. I did my homework though and however hard I tried, I could not find a bad word said about WA. Review after review gave it full marks and as reviews are all we can really go by, I started to get hopefull.
On Sunday 16th August, I joined as a Starter Member and immediately had an email from a person called Kyle. It was a standard welcome email but somehow I felt he was actually talking to me personally. He told me that by lesson 4 of the "Get Started Here" training, I would have my very own 'niche' website up and running. "Oh Yeah", I thought to myself, "me a Grandma setting up my own website, get real!".
Then I read further into the email and Kyle started to go through what would happen and where everything I needed was, so I could get started. When he said to start the course press the 'BIG GREEEN' button, I thought, "I like the sound of this, the emphasis on GREEEN was indicative that this could be for numpties like me". The step by step instructions are just that, STEP by STEP and that's why I could follow this course.
By day 5, I was hooked and I went PREMIUM and after taking advantage of the first month's discounted payment of just $19, I went YEARLY. It didn't make sense to me to do monthly, as the yearly saving was such a lot. It equates to $29.92 per month instead of $47. I know the yearly amount could be hard for some to afford, but I consider this was the time to get out the credit card. This way, if you can't afford the $359 for the year in one go, you can pay it monthly off your card and still be quids in.
From then on, I've had my ups and downs, sometimes being elated when I grasped something and then getting frustrated when I didn't. The verifying thing with Google reduced me to tears and hubby had to calm me down. I asked for help with it and couldn't believe the amount of support there was. In the end, a brilliant video by Marion saved the day and with her succinct tutorial, my website was verified.
A community that doesn't communicate is a lonely place, but this WA community is the kindest and most accommodating bunch of people I've ever known and that's it, I don't even know any of you personally. One day we'll have to organise a huge party for all WAers, or perhaps set up clubs in all the different countries for WA members to meet up. That would be awesome.
To finish and I can't really believe this has happened, but the last 3 posts on my website magnesiumandhealth.com are all on the first page of google. If someone had said this would happen after just 5 weeks I would have laughed. "What me, a computer numptie, past her sell by date, setting up a site and getting on first page of google, you must be joking!"
Just shows how helpful, kind-hearted, patient, hard-working, genuine and powerful this WA community is. Good luck to you all and I hope you attain all your goals and dreams. Somewhere in one of Kyle's lessons or emails I remember him saying something like - failure only happens to those who give up!
You are all amazing and we have Kyle and Carson to thank for their inspiration in developing and building this wonderful site and community.

Ches, congrats on yr articles being on first page of Google, I am sure yr hard work will pay off soon, keep doing what is necessary daily on yr site. WA is indeed a great place to start a successful online business from scratch. ;))
WA is a great place to learn and at times it can seem overwhelming but just stick with training age is no barrier here I never thought I could pull this one off however here am I am progressing nicely, congratulations in taking the step to becoming premium wish you every success
Hi Ches
We're never past our sell by date....like fine wines we mature with age.
Glad you came on board here at WA, just the place for 'pooter novices like us!
Mark
Thanks for that Mark. You're right of course. Glad I'm aboard too. We're sure goin' get to grips with them damn 'pooters once and for all! Ches
Hi Chessie, enjoyed reading your post, totally agree with you. Had a look at your website, and was rather impressed, sorry to read that your web designer holds the copyright, that’s unfair considering what you are having to pay. I would talk to kyle and see if you could transfer the site to WA and have full control of it.
Best wishes
Trevor,
Thanks Trevor for your kind words. The magnesiumandhealth webpage is WP, but the psmicrographs webpage was done way back in 2011 by a web designer. No matter, we may try and set up a new site with another domain and transfer all our images over to it. Don't know if WP does a fully searchable site though. Will have to ask the question. Thanks again, Ches
Hi Chessie, WP sites are very flexable and fully searchable, you just need a suitable theme, I have found Twenty Twelve very flexable. Hope this helps.
Trevor
Hi Trevor, I'm using twenty thirteen now and it seems OK at the moment, must look at twenty twelve. Thanks for the info. Ches
