All in One SEO, two different Google XML Sitemap plugins have all failed to create a Sitemap. No, I didn't try to use them all at the same time.
I have gone back through
OK - I just made my All in One SEO sitemap
when I went to view, I got this message:
XML Parsing Error: no element found
Location: http://affiliatesproductreview.com/sitemap.xml
Line Number 1, Column 1:
You're going to need a techy for this one. I don't the difference between parsing and parsley.
Did you try to run it more than once?
You might close the browser and go back in. Not knowing I can only offer very simple suggestions. For example: rebooting the computer.
Which I could be of more help.
Parsing and parsley - hahaha, funny!
Thanks so much Celine64, I'm sure I'll figure it out sooner or later.
I'll try.
A parsing error happens when a little piece of the code is incorrect. Since we are not manually building the sitemap you cannot go in and find it to correct it.
I realized this morning that I had cleaned up my computer about an hour before (yes, I checked the time of the changes) before I received Carson's post.
That is the only thing I had done that could have possibly changed anything.
My computer could have POSSIBLY been interfering with the creation of my sitemap.
You might run a quick cleanup and see if that helps.
Hopefully someone will have a real answer for you soon.
Wow! - It works now - it wasn't before (maybe that message displays before google etc.gets it - it seemed like it took forever).
Hi, are we supposed to click 'notify google' and 'notify bing' ? on the XML sitemap in All in one seo ? not sue what I should \/ should not check off in all those options ;-( thanks in advance
My understanding was that they should be checked. When I reset up my All in one SEO I left those two unchecked.
I just went back in and checked the Google box and it updated just fine.
I need to try to finish setting up my Google gaggles so I'll find out then if it works.
Hey Celine,
You do not need to do any uploading with your sitemap, the plugins will create the sitemap for you.
Let's start by figuring out which plugin you are using.
The sitemap plugin that I suggest using is called:
"Google XML Sitemaps"
All that you need to do is activate the plugin and let it run. The default location of your sitemap will be:
http://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml
Let me know how this works for you.
Carson
Ok. Thank you.
This is weird.
The only thing I did just now is type in the location of my sitemap.
It popped right up.
I'm using the All-In-One SEO.
Now it shows up when I look in there. It actually used some memory this time.
Do you have a magic wand or something??????
Will this one load up to Google?
or should I change again?
Hey Celine,
I had this problem too. The new sitemap feature in All in One SEO seems to clash with the Google XML Sitemaps plugin. I deactivated the Google XML Sitemaps plugin and just used the one from All In One SEO and that cleared up the problem.
To do that, in you All In One SEO menu, there is an option called Feature Manager. Click on that and then simply enable the XML Sitemaps option.
Best Regards,
Jim
I was just about to get a sitemap created and submitted, but wasn't sure what/which plugin to use.
I think I'll just use the All in One SEO one - seems to be working best for everyone, and its already in Wordpress.
Thanks techhound!

I stuck with the All in one SEO, and de-activated the Google XML Sitemap.. I did go back and checked both off and they seem to be working, well I haven't blown anything up yet :-) I do need to figure out how to check and make sure the site map thingy is working.. any ideas how to check that ?
The one difference I noticed (I should have caught it sooner) was when the sitemap would update, it said it was created and everything was fine. BUT it didn't use any memory and it didn't list any as being used.
Now, it updates (it does it by itself: dynamically) it shows how much memory it used.
I can see the list when I want to view it. I still haven't 'seen' the actual sitemap.
If you're hooked up with Google - it's WebMaster Tools; that will have the sitemap.
I just found mine. It hadn't been submitted. So I submitted it manually.
I clicked the test button first.
Google WebMaster Tools
1.On the Webmaster Tools Home page, click the site you want.
2.Under Crawl, click Sitemaps.
3.Select the Sitemap(s) you want to resubmit, and then click the Resubmit button.
If it isn't listed then Google doesn't have it.
This may not be the usual route. I thought this was automated. Once it is submitted it will say pending and then it should go through ok. You only have to do it once. Geesh.....I don't even want to think about Bing.

WP is sending my posts to me as a Comment from the same page!
Activated Akismet yesterday. That is the only change I've made.
What's up with this?
How do I stop it?
Hi Celine. Under Settings -> Discussion you have set first two options (notify blogs and allow pingbacks). So if you link internally your blog gets notified and generates a pingback :)
I was freaking out too. Found this and no need to post the question for myself. You saved my day. Thanks!
This is because you linked one post to another and WP for some reason makes the link into a comment. All you have to do is trash the comment. None of your post will get deleted. It happens to me all the time.
Oh my! I absolutely loved that theme when I saw it!
Ok, so on your main page, you are seeing your dead sea salt post and then below it, you are seeing other posts right?
You have your site set for the main page to show all recent posts. Those at the bottom are not comments, they are other articles that you have posted. Wordpress will keep posting snippets of them to the page for your customer. They can then hit "continue reading" and the full article will open up.
Is this what you are seeing?
Ok. I didn't express myself plainly.
In WP on the admin side the post is coming back to me as a comment. Akismet isn't even throwing them away. Weird.
It's a loopback. I knew I recognized that IP address. It's me. I'm going to shut her down and scan.
Thank you.
Are you talking about on the right hand side of your site where it is listing "recent Comments" or are inside your dashboard where people are making comments?

Hi - please make sure you don't have another plugin trying to create a sitemap file for you too.
Having more than one try, has been known to cause problems.
All the best, Mark
Hi.
Ok, sorry that didn't help.
These are my settings for All in One SEO -> XML SiteMap:
http://take.ms/RVXzP
Do yours reflect those?
All the best, Mark
Mark, the only thing different is the box "include author pages" is checked.
It says it is creating them.
Celine, Here is a great link on an article on creating your sitemap. Hope it helps :)
