Choose!
In my offline world I have had the privilege of being a team mentor and being able to mentor individual students on their journey towards achieving their goals in the teaching industry. As a mentor it was not my job or my desire to do the students work for them or give them all the answers. It was about support, encouragement and guidance.
Regular discussions and updates on progress were a vital element for providing them with self-direction and motivation. Pointing them in the right direction to research, offering them the tools and pushing them to discover for themselves.
Being able to provide students with a sense of autonomy and to be self driven is something that as a mentor is so rewarding but it also means sometimes having the hard or uncomfortable conversations.
I want to see them grow and succeed. I want to be able to draw out the talents I see and help the student see and believe for themselves what they have to offer that is unique and worthwhile.
If the student chooses not to hear the constructive critisism or advice to help them stay on track that is up to them and ultimatetly leads to them struggling and possibly failing.
. This is a huge responsibilty on the shoulders of a mentor and one not to be taken lighty. However at the end of the day it falls on the student to want to make it, to be self motivated and self driven.
To put in the work and the time. To take on board the advice given and use it towards self improvement.
No one likes critisism but in this context it is an essential part of growth and by taking and using the constructive part of the critisism is the secret to being able to change
We can't provide the drive, just the information and the encouragement.
Here on this platform at WA, we have so much to tap into, tools and traing resources and we can choose to use others blogs , messages and experiences to reflect on and redirect our own learning journey.
Our journey is our own and we all have different paths but they all lead in the same direction.
We can choose to take on the advice for the keys to sucess and professional knowledge and use it appropriately.
If we fall or lose our way it is not the failure of those that seek to inspire. It is our own and we need to own it! Own the failure and then choos to change direction!
To your success!

So true, we are given the tools here. If we don't choose to use them correctly or at all. The fault is on us. Your mentor isn't going to force you.
As the old saying goes "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink".
Hi Mickey, thanks we need to be the horse that takes itself to the water and drinks:)
Cheers Cass
Right on Cass, yes totally agree. We do as a mentor to guide and direct. The rest of the journey is up to the student.

Yes, here we have everything to succeed,
we must know how to make the right choice,
no to give up and believe in ourself as in others.
To our success!!
