Hey guys, I know that WA has some great protection for spam blockers and such as part of our membership, but I was wondering how many of you still put in a firewall like Wordfe

Hey Stephan,

For my Wealthy Affiliate (WA) hosted websites, I do NOT need to use a firewall, as the WA hosting servers are very WELL protected, as Carson explained here: and the protection is continually updated.

For sites hosted elsewhere, I prefer Wordfence Security for its ease of use and strength in protecting sites.

Hope you find this helpful.

Hi Triblu,

Thank you for sharing your experience and insights. Very good to know!

Steven

I use a plugin called Defender, as it is lightweight and fast. WordFence is good, but it is actually a very heavy plugin and will slow your website down.

Thanks Chrystopher, I appreciate the tip. I'll check it out!

It's good to know..

Hey Chrystopher, I wanted to let you know that I took your advice and installed Defender just in case.

As Triblu said, we have great protection here at WA, but I still get spam in my email sometimes.

Because of it's lightweight structure and easy setup, I think defender is the best choice.

I considered using All-in-one Security because it has 3 levels for installation; Easy, Medium, and Hard. But it's still meant to be a comprehensive plugin, covering all security aspects, and I think it's too heavy, and the setup would take too long.

Defender let's you install a lot of it's features with just one click.

It's perfect for what I want to do!

Thanks for your help!

Thats great...ill keep this in mind in the event I would like to heighten the site security...

Thanks for sharing

For sure.

I have been assuming that WA's security is adequate. Let's see what others think.

Hey Frank, you're probably right, but I've been getting a fair bit of spam in my email for my original site. I don't mind installing a lightweight plugin if it helps keep my inbox less cluttered.

Know what I mean?

I transferred a site to WA that has Wordfence already installed.

I have no issues with slowing down or other interferences.

I was unable to add Wordfence to a newly created site because wordfence needs to change the php file. WA support told me I could not add WF for that reason.
I like Wordfence, and have used it for 4 or 5 yrs now.

Thanks Rudy, that's a good answer.

I used to use ZA, zone alarm and Avg all in one security. Both are good

Thanks AbieAJ! Did you use both of these as Chrome extensions?

How necessary is it to buy multiple versions of the same domain name to protect your brand? (.com, .org, .net) If someone else purchases a very similar URL, is it going to di

Hey Stephen,

Having been on the internet with domains since dial-up days, even when it was advised to buy all versions of a domain, I have NEVER done so.

Scammers will ALWAYS find away around gaining traffic from typos to main brands too, so, if you were to buy EVERYTHING, you'd be bankrupt in no time at all.

However, each to their own. This is only my take on this topic.

Hope you find this helpful.

I would purchase all three to protect my brand yes.

Anyone can purchase the .net /.org for example and built a totally different site. However most people when they start typing, they are second natured to go for a .com first.

Hi AbieAJ,

Thanks so much. I wasn't sure how far to go with this, but I have a long term plan for this brand, and I do want to protect it.

It's my second time around working on the same niche. I made so many mistakes on my first site, that I think it will be easier for me to start over again from scratch.

Crazy, I know, but I think it's the right move.

Thank you once again.

Steven.
