I Can't Be Intimidated By What I Don't Know (Yet)

There are some people here at WA that blow me away with their vast knowledge of website building and maintenance, affiliate marketing, SEO, driving traffic to the site, and a host of other stuff that I have no clue about. I don't want to drop any names, but Robert, Tiffany and AJ come to mind. However, there are a plenty of others that fit the bill.

When I'm reading through the plethora of blog posts I receive in my e-mail, or look in on what's going on in the chat room, sometimes I start focusing on all of the stuff I don't know. To provide astrological context, what I don't know is Jupiter. What I know is Pluto.

I have to constantly remind myself to not get out ahead of my skis. When I come across something that expands on something that I have learned in the lessons, I look into it and incorporate it into my program. For instance, say I come across a blog featuring a training video on how to center a banner within a post. Well, since I have covered adding banners to posts in the lessons, this will expand on what I have already learned. So, I add it to my repretoire.

On the other hand, when I come across a post on "Stopping the Related Videos from Embedded You Tube Videos Showing," hey, I know that's over my head. I'm simply not there yet. I don't even have a You Tube channel yet, and now is not the time to get sidetracked creating one. That's getting out ahead of my skis. I'm still fine tuning my site and working on creating quality content.

Trying to keep up with the Joneses in WA will drive me nuts. There are people who have been here less time than I have that are farther along than I am. But, hey, they came here with more knowledge about websites and affiliate marketing than I did. I have to take that into account, rather than just assume that they are smarter than me, although I'm sure many of them are.

There are also people here that have been here a lot longer than I have, but have not accomplished as much as I have. This does not make me smarter than them. I have no idea what their issues are.

The bottom line is: I must stay focused, follow the lessons in the order presented, and don't bite off more than I can chew. Small, consistent successes encourage me to "press on toward the mark" of the freedom that financial independence can bring. I can best do this by not measuring my progress by the progress - or lack thereof - of others. In the final analysis, more and more will be revealed. One of these days, some newbie will be just as much in awe of my knowledge as I am of Phil's. Or Kenney Lee's. Or Trish's. I'm just sayin'...

I enjoyed your post Thanks.

Great post. This is your journey and you need to focus on beating your own records. That’s how you improve.
I wish you all the best in your business journey.
Jane

You have to travel your own journey. It's nice to see what others do and it's really good to get their helpful teaching, but you still have to stay in your own shoes. You are right...eat the elephant one bite at a time. You will learn, and learn, and learn some more...

...as I am doing...

I am guilty of keeping up with the Joneses. You have a good point there. That is why I need to stay focused on the lessons. Everyone on here does that. They say it works. I read many other bloggers out there, non-WA sites. None offer the best training bar none, WA is it.

You hit the hammer right on the head of the nail with this! I struggle with this all the time! I see all around me, folks with so much , SO MUCH knowledge and I will think, how will I ever get there? Yet your post reminded me I will get there in time and I have to remind myself as well that I don’t have to know everything at once; because I will definitely feel overwhelmed - which honestly has happened more often than I’d like to admit. So thank you for this article because it just helped get me to stay focused on what I know now and the “other stuff” will come at the time when it needs to.

Right on, Rob. When you think about it, we know a hell of a lot! And we're just getting started!

Over time, you start to see patterns, then you'll say "I heard that before" or "I tried that before", but it takes a little time. I know there are still many things I don't know and when you read Kyle or the other Super Affiliate's posts, you see they're still feeling lots of room to learn as well. Kyle's learning Instagram now and I'm sure he'll find something else after that--that's just how it goes.

Since this is a technology career field, it's not going to stop being some "new" strategy or software, so the key is finding what works best to serve your target audience and leaving the rest for others out there to figure out.

Shiny object syndrome is really easy to slip into if you're not careful. I've been there a couple times and didn't even realize it!

Yes, I can relate to that when I first became a member and reading and seeing all the different comments and training and websites, I was so frustrated, then I read a post similar to yours, encouraging newbies to remain focus on what you are doing follow the lessons you will get to all the other stuff in time, I was so happy for that post.

I appreciate the compliment Cal! I don't think I was one of the "quick ones" either. Hahaha. I tried to expedite my learning curve by putting in the time upfront and focusing like you're doing. Instead of stretching out my learning curve by posting once per week, I tried to expedite that by posting once or more per day.

That's the method for my madness.

I think you're approach is best. I've gotten distracted on things like conversions when I didn't have traffic and "getting ahead of your skis" doesn't really pay off.

Instead, it's best to do like you're doing and keep stretching and improving from where you are at your pace. It's good to challenge yourself and press in extra hard from time to time, but keeping up with the Joneses is "for the birds".

Well said my friend. Being focused is important. There is an incredible amount if information here provided by fellow members. All the best. Jim

Thank you, Jim.
