Don't Overthink the Niche Thing

If Dale Earnhardt, Jr. were to join WA, his niche would most likely be race cars. If Hank Aaron had been a member of WA, his would surely have been baseball. And Stevie Ray Vaughn? Guitars, no doubt.

You get my drift? Your niche grows out of something you would do if you got paid for it or not. Ninety percent of the people who join this program purport to have difficulty finding their niche. Well, ninety percent may be a bit high, so let's just say a whole bunch of folks. It's really not that difficult. We just tend to overthink it. Heck, we all have something we wanted to be or do ever since we were knee high to the proverbial duck's butt.

Your niche is not necessarily what is trending or popular. It's not what you think might sell. It's not something off the "greatest niches" list. Your niche is about something you really love to do (like skate), or something you would really love to do if and when you get the chance (like travel). You have to be passionate about it because you will be doing a lot of writing and learning about it.

Whatever your niche, rest assured you will be communicating with people who already know a lot about the subject, so you've got to be on your game. Nobody's going to buy something from you that they know more about than you do. You must come across as at least as knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the product as they are.

Remember that your niche is not carved in stone. You can change it any time you want to. However, there is a big "but" (pun intended) you must take into consideration: If your site name and domain name are the same or very close to the same it will be difficult to change your niche unless you stay in the ballpark of your domain name. You cannot change your domain name, but you can change your site name. You can also build another website around your new niche. You get two free sites as a member and you can buy domains really cheap.

My point here is: The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step (famous Chinese proverb). Don't spend an inordinate amount of time trying to come up with a niche. Search your mind and heart for a day or so and get at it. Don't search outside of yourself for the perfect niche. It's in you. It does not have to be unique. If it turns out to be the same as a whole bunch of other folks, just write better content and work harder than them. Your success is directly proportionate to your effort.

Thanks for this nice post. It's full of
truth.

Have a great day
Ingrid

My niche is certainly not unique; I have lots of competition. Still, I'm beginning to build a following. I think if we just stick to it, write good content, and keep writing it. we'll finally arrive at our destination.

Excellent points. I especially like the comment you made that a website(niche)does not have to be unique. Just write better content.

That's right on the mark. Content is King.

We also have the advantage of WA having such an extensive community offering to help beginners like myself.

The training program is excellent as well. I truly believe this is a huge advantage for us. There are many people out there all alone, twisting in the wind with nowhere to turn.

This is an excellent article that will inspire many new people who are just starting out.

Thank you and congratulations on your many athletic accomplishments. You are a beast!

I preach "Content Is King" a lot. It will make or break you. I couldn't agree with you more on the community thing. They have bailed me out of many a hole. I look forward to hearing about your progress.
