My Rank is Sliding Downhill

During my first few months here at WA I was so focused on building my rank that I spent several hours a day doing everything we're supposed to do. No matter how hard I tried my best rank was 199. I desperately wanted to reach the top 100. But then twice I had to take a break and start over. While I'm glad to be back, I've let go of trying to increase my rank. I work hard every day on my websites and adding content, gaining followers on social media, etc.

I've learned that for me it's more important to focus on building a strong and sustainable business than to worry about what my rank is here at Wealthy Affiliate. That certainly doesn't mean I don't care, though. I still try my best to offer comments and keep up with emails, etc.and I've gotta admit it does still bother me a little bit that every day it seems my rank is slipping further in the wrong direction. In the past month it's gone from 249 to 315. But I don't have the time or energy to worry too much about that. All I can do is my best.

But I'm thankful to be a part of this wonderful and supportive community and if I can ever help anyone or offer support in any way, please don't hesitate to ask.

Love to all,

Hey Carol,

I'm still very much aware of my ranking here, but I've learned to that I need to focus a lot more attention on my site, so, there are times when my rank is stagnant. There have been times when I was all over the place, and my rank only moved 1 point; other times, I did nothing, and I would move up a notch. I've stopped trying to figure it out, and try to keep it moving.

Keep doing what you're doing Carol!!!

I agree. I have a full time job and a family which takes a lot of my time but I do work on my business everyday. I was trying to build my rank to 200 but I decided to spend more of that time on my business. Happy to see that I'm not alone in my choice of priorities.

I've turned a lot more of my attention to WA making sure I come by everyday and not necessarily just to post comments to try and rank up. There's always new information, trainings, and other things to learn that can help me to grow my business. I've now made coming to WA one of my daily habits as it is one of the main sites I go to on a regular basis each day.

I think you have spoken for many people here, and that includes me, I usually find that I'm short on time, and can't work on my website when I'm very tired, so I spend my better time researching, writing content for my website, then when my energy waned, I spend time learning from the community and contributing where I can, but rank comes and goes, and sometimes we may have to sacrifice it for one reason or the other. I hope this helps - thanks for the read.

I think you put in perspective, Carol. For sure the community here at WA is top notch and the support outstanding, but in reality we all have the goal of setting up and running a successful online business, and that is where our true focus should lie. And it's so easy to get side-tracked. Thanks for the "informed " post!

Hi Carol...I'm with you. I've seen my rank go from 475 to over 1100 in a week or two. But during that time I was focusing on building my site and publishing good content...not WA. I don't pay attention to my WA rank any more, just my Google rank.
Best wishes,
Karen

You are absolutely doing the right thing Carol, some people get obsessed with rank and neglect their sites, and that really is not why we're here!
When I first joined, it seemed that I shot up through the ranks with no real intention to do so. I too am slipping down a bit now, but it really doesn't matter!! The best of luck :)

Hello Carol, I seen your post.I hope you don't mind another follower :) Although i am a newbie to internet marketing and been at WA 5 weeks i enjoy interacting with members but once i do figure out how to get content on my website that will be my main focus as it should be for any of us, like Marvin "Theoldsilly" said ranking wont pay the bills.Once we get the balance of fun and work we will be okay.Wish you much success with your internet business.

I went through the same newbie curve when it comes to WA ranking. I got so enthralled with climbing up the ranks that I made it all the way up to #36 at one point.

But I still didn't have a single sale, hadn't made any money with my site, and could not find it anywhere on the first 10 pages of any Google keyword searches.

I had an epiphany: It's all about balance. Being active here in the community, giving and receiving help - it's all good. Even great. But the primary focus should be on building a successful online business. So I now am happy being usually in the top 500 or so. I spend a little time each day here in community, but much more time on building my business.

And yes, my main site is now bringing in money. WA ranking is nice, but it doesn't pay the bills.

Thank you, I really appreciate your input. I'm glad to hear that you are starting to make money. As long as I can stay in the top 500 I think I'll be fine with that.

I know what that's like. I've been trying to increase my rank to make it to the top 100, but it's getting tougher and tougher. I've responded to people's blogs as soon as I could and welcomed new members but it wasn't enough. My rank still took another turn for the worse. There hasn't been much going on in live chat and I haven't had anything to blog about lately, so that's not helping. I know there's more to WA than keeping rank up, however, i would still like to improve mine.

Yep, I know exactly what you mean.
