Hugs to You
My 85-year-old mom is here visiting me for the winter. She lives in Nebraska and she loves to come to Arizona and stay with me in the wintertime. Who can blame her, especially when winter has been so harsh in so much of the country. Anyway, she brought me this little notebook that she just found tucked away in a drawer. It was a book of poems that her mom, my grandma, had written over the years. I loved my grandma dearly and thought I knew a lot about her, like how she was the best cook ever in the world, and was the sweetest, kindest, most loving person I've ever known, but I didn't know she secretly wrote poems. She passed away 11 years ago at the age of 98, but reading these poems she wrote in her own hand I could feel her hugs from heaven. I especially loved this one and wanted to share it with you.
Hugs
It’s wondrous what a hug can do, a hug can cheer you when you’re blue.
A hug can say “I love you so” or “I hate to see you go.”
A hug is welcome back again, and great to see you, where you been?
A hug can sooth a small child’s pain and bring a rainbow after rain.
The hug, there’s just no doubt about it, we scarcely could survive without it.
A hug delights and warms and charms, safely in a loved one’s arms.
Kittens crave them, puppies love them, heads of state are not above them.
A hug can break the language barrier and make travel so much merrier.
No need to fret about how you store ’em, the more you give the more there’s of ’em.
So stretch those arms without delay and give someone a hug today!
So I'm sending you all a hug. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

I just sent a virtual hug your way Carol and thanks for sharing your Grandmother's poem!
Hi Carol,
That is a beautiful poem. It is wonderful that you have discovered them and can draw inspiration from them.
I hope your Mum survives the winter and that you enjoy your time together.
Cheers,
Duncan
Thanks, my mom is pretty amazing for 85. Everyone in her family has lived into their late 90s at least, and she had an aunt who lived to 104.
