Protect Your Content!
Protecting your copyright in the United States is a relatively simple matter; one of the easiest ways to have documentation is to visit the US Copyright Office and fill out the form. It's not free but $35 is pretty cheap for peace of mind.
Copyright protection in Canada is also straight forward; all that's necessary is to register your work with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office; of course, the fee($50) is a little higher. I'll never understand why my government does that to us. I can also only find a way to protect one piece of work at a time so it would be a bit pricey to protect everything. I did, however find a free resource for bloggers in both countries and quite a few more to boot!
I downloaded a plugin from Digiprove that does the trick marvelously! It gives you a nice copyright notification for your audience and also lets you protect yourself with a feature to disable the copy-paste function. You can find it by searching the term 'Copyright Proof' in the Plugins section of your Wordpress.
I hope this blog helps!
Be Well,
Jason

Hi Jason,
Thanks for the information. I'll look into the Digiprove plugin.
Not sure if I'd want to disable the copy/paste feature myself...I find it irritating when I hit a site that does this, and end up just screencapturing the info if I need it anyway. I usually save things in a swipe file for ideas/inspiration....never to copy and reuse the information commercially or steal from the original owner. I know how much work goes into it and I wouldn't want to discredit an effort like that.
And like most things, if someone is intent on using your info, they're going to find a way, no matter what measures you've put in place. I just look at it as hurting them more in the long run than me, especially if it comes to having to prove it was originally mine. In this age, I can post something, then send a notification out to Pinterest, Facebook, G+, email lists, etc, to share what I just shared, and that will serve as a timeline of proof which will be pretty challenging to dispute. Plus if they use it on their website, Google will slap them for duplicate content.
Thanks for sharing!
That's some good info you just gave me, I'm sort of new to the whole social media thing...just another hat I have to get sized lol
lol Yeah I knew that already :) I just put Adsense on the hat stretcher...the brim now accommodates a new plugin and a better understanding of html...oh, and patience!
