Made A Huge Mistake With Amazon, But Glad I Discovered It

I know, I know. 2 blog posts in the same hour. But I just couldn't help but let off a little steam the best way I know how!

Today, I realized that for 6 months I have been using the Amazon UK affiliate program to target my main audience of US based visitors.

I genuinely don't know how much this has affected my site, and whether I would have earned anymore if I had done things differently, but it seems pretty obvious to me that US based visitors would not want to buy a product I linked to if they ended up in the UK store.

I'm glad I discovered this issue now rather than any later, but I'm already dreading going back through all my posts and adding the US affiliate link.

How do you guys do it? Do you put all your eggs in one basket and go for just the US based store? How do you make sales to people from different countries without sticking 20 different links for 20 different countries in your site?

as heidi says go for the onelink - select your products from amazon.com and when ohers click thorugh amazon will select ' the closest they can' in the other countries you have signed up for.
i thought i had missed out on loads, 40% of my visitors were from the usa.
after signing up with amazon.com and adding the onelink, i found that i had not missed much - the american market for my niche weren't in much of a buying mood.
make sure you have traffic as the amazon.com terms are 3 sales in 180 days or account closed - you can reapply but if you have traffic then it should be ok.
can't remember, but i think i used headers and footers plugin to add the code easily.
good luck

Thank you, really great advice there. Maybe it’s a good thing I’m only clocking on to the US affiliate program now, since I have a lot more traffic than when I started out, because like you say 3 sales in 180 days might not have worked for me otherwise!

Thanks kindly for sharing your experience with Amazon here -- wouldn't have guessed this one! ... good to keep in mind for when i get there later on... all the very best for every success, cheerio... :)

Thank you, glad I could help!

Hello Benjamin, I am an Amazon Affiliate here in Canada. There is a way to allow access to your website world wide. If you go on the Amazon Affiliate site and search. If you do not find it, pm me and I will try and direct you there.

I will have a quick look and let you know if I find it. Thanks!

Amazon have a system called One Link, my understanding is you sign up with each countries affiliate program under you one account then the one link you use will take the person to the Amazon store of their country.

I have done the sign up but not used a link as yet, not sure how you’d test it either but apparently that’s how it works.

If you sign into your account you can check it out.

Wow, that sounds like exactly what I need. Thanks!
