Working at Home? Create a virtual commute.
A virtual commute is a list of tasks you must complete before you sit down at your desk, in your home, to work. The reason and benefit of having a virtual commute is to change your mind set. Not so much to organize you - but it will do that to.
You are creating a time where you are preparing your brain for work, not sitting on the couch watching Steve or Jerry. Like the drive into work, you are thinking about one goal. I'm on my way to work.
So what would I do if I were actually going to a job...
- I bathe or shower, brush my teeth
- I get dressed, put on my face (make up)
- I do my hair
Now I am ready to 'drive' into the office, so how do I do that without leaving the house.
- I make the beds
- I straighten up the bathroom
- I straighten and/or dust the living room
- I unload and/or load the dishwasher, wipe down the counters and pick out something to thaw for dinner.
- Fix something for breakfast - I used to eat at my desk anyway
It takes about 45 mins to 1 hour. Now I'm at work and I can focus, because I'm not thinking about the dishes in the sink or needing to make the beds. My mind is free to focus on what I need to accomplish with my website.
I vacuum on my lunch break, around 1 PM and I have lunch away from the desk (with the computer turned off).
I break again at 4 and feed my dogs and cats.
My work day ends at 6 PM, the commute home? I straighten up my desk, turn off the computer and fix dinner...it's a good commute.
If I get back online after dinner, I try not to go past 10 pm. After all I have to work tomorrow! LOL

It is good to have a work schedule, I get up and get ready like I am going into the office,, organization is a must
Good advice! I have made a plan for myself a bit like this, with the rule that if I don't get it done before the start of my "work day" then it doesn't get done until after work. Just the same as if I was going to the office. Dishes? Well, they have to wait, if I don't do them before my commute. Making beds? Same story. I think it's good for discipline to get your mind in the right place. Working from home it's all too easy to hang around in pyjamas until noon, leave making the bed til 3pm and do the dishes at odd times when you feel like procrastinating! Thank you for sharing! Now I'm off to start my commute :)
Sweetie you do, even if you are holding down another job. You have to have time set aside for your website. Even if it is just 90 mins. Time that you prepare your 'headspace' for... it will help you see accomplishments. I'm unemployed can't find work so I have to keep myself up and going. So Good Luck to You- don't give up your family deserves it, you deserve it - success
