Hi guys

About a year ago I told you how I'm struggling with pain in my entire body. Well, I finally have a diagnosis... I have fibromyalgia.

I must admit that I have needed some time to digest this information, mostly because there's not much to do about it.

There really isn't much to say, but I prommised some of you to let you know as soon as I had a diagnosis...

Wishing you a full recovery. I will pray for you!

I am not sure whether to say Yay! or I am sorry. I know it is very hard to not know what is wrong so sometimes a diagnosis is a relief. It is easier to explain to others if you can put a real name on what you have.

I have many such conditions including erythromelalgia and some that I don't have a diagnosis for.

I hope you find good treatments. I would advise you look into supplements since many of the prescription drugs have such bad side effects. Supplements like Vit D and magnesium help greatly with pain and low levels of these are very, very common. Low levels can cause pain. Magnesium helps with nerve function in general so should help with fibro. It also relieves muscle cramps. Low Vit D causes muscle and joint pain.

Topicals like arnica gel or cream work instantly to ease pain as well in muscles, tendons etc. I am not sure about nerve pain. I use arnica for bursitis and tendonitis.

Thank you for both the yay and the sorry :)
It really is a relief to have a diagnosis finally, and it is a relief that I don't have to see more doctors for an explanation.
I take Vit D and Iron supplements already. Those are the only two levels that have been low the past year where I have had new blood tests done about every three months.

Hi there. My name is Michelle. I also have Fibro. I've known about it for nearly 5 years now. It is exasperating to realize that there isn't much to be done about it medically speaking. But, there are a few things you can do that might bring some relief. For me, I didn't want to be reliant on pain pills. I do have to swallow some now and then when the pain interrupts my sleep for too long ... or when I'm in such pain, I can't concentrate on my work. But these times occur less and less often. I can say that exercise, meditation (simple meditation, not the "om" type), making changes to my diet, and taking supplements has helped me quite a bit. But, it's been a process of learning as much as I can about Fibro and about other illnesses (usually, Fibro exists in conjunction with other autoimmune disorders). Every person is different, so learning and researching about your own situation can really be helpful. Best of luck to you. Maybe even after you learn a lot, you could try a niche website related to Fibro. :)

Thank you Michelle
The worst part of getting the fibro diagnosis probably is that it left me totally discouraged and more or less apathetic. Right now I trying my best to claw myself out of that feeling and back to my old self. I have started making changes to my diet in hopes that it will give me more energy. The pain is actually manageable at the moment, the energy not so much.
I have an appointment with my doctor next week where we are going to talk about treatment options.
As to exercise, I really want to be more active, but finding a balance is hard. If I overdo it I end up having two days in bed. For now, I walk at least 30 minutes a day and as the weather gets warmer it will probably be more. My body does not like cold... the colder the weather, the more pain in my body when I venture outside.

Yes indeed, the cold weather can really wreak havoc. I can't wait for the summer! Also right, starting an exercise program has to be done so carefully ... especially in the beginning. It layed me flat in the first couple of weeks, but then it got better. But to me, 30 minutes a day of walking sounds great! All the best to you with your visit to the doctor next week. Try to keep your chin up, too! Maybe something better is on the horizon.
