Do You Sell Sites To Clients? - BETA Testers Needed

Hi all,

So Dean (@Apina) and I have created a plugin for people who create sites for others.

We'd love to have feedback from anyone here who is in this industry, maybe you create sites for people, maybe you do local marketing etc, and so we want to give out 5-10 review copies to anyone who might be interested.

About the plugin:

It's not a free plugin, which is why we are just looking for a few testers and not advertising everyone to go download it :p

It lets you add your own custom training onto the back-end of WordPress. Where you normally see "posts, pages, comments" etc, you will be able to add "training" and put in whatever training you want.

Below is an example of the custom training added into a WP site's dashboard.

This is great for helping your customers learn WordPress without you sending them off to watch a bunch of videos and get lost in the YouTube maze.

It's also great if different clients have different or specific needs - you can customize the training to their exact needs.

It also allows you to embed (and mask) affiliate links, so your clients can earn you extra money through additional promotions and up sells.

Oh yeah, and you can put your own blog feed into their dashboards too, so you can keep them updated with your latest news.

Dean made a really cool video on our site which explains the plugin more

So, if you think you are someone who would have a use for this plugin, or you have some clients you can test it out with, then send me a PM, and I'll hook you up with a review copy.

Also, as there is an affiliate program, if you are not someone who builds sites for clients, but you DO have a WordPress tutorial site, or a blog where you could promote this plugin to WP developers, then you are also welcome to have a look and give us your thoughts.

There's a mini survey we have for you to fill out.

In exchange for that we'll give you a free copy of the plugin for use on 10 sites.

We are only looking for 5-10 people, so if you're not in this field (you just deal with your own sites), then it's best not to worry about it. Thanks!

Looks like a great opportunity. All the very best :) Patti

Hello Dom
I may be too late but looks like this plugin would fit nicely with my local marketing business. Happy to give it a try.

Not too late, still got a few left :) Will PM you the details.

It seems very interesting but I may not be your cup of tea since I have least knowledge of the subject. I am pleased at your project and wish you godspeed.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your well wishes anyway then!

Nice to see the results of your project, and share it with us! I am not in that field, but I am sure it will work out just fine!

Here's hoping :)

Hope people will take up this opportunity because it is looking really good

Thanks Beverley, I think it is just a case of finding the right people now :)

Thanks!

Cool! I think this could be useful for people in bootcamp, if they want to take their site to the 'next level' and do mini training groups, or some sort of special VIP training.

How was it developing a plugin? I've always thought it sounded pretty complicated, but I guess if don't do the coding part, it can't be that bad!

Yeah I guess people could offer it as a bonus to the people they recruit? Like "Have my own personal thoughts and training inside your site if you go premium" or something.

I originally needed it for one of my own projects and asked Dean to make it, he agreed and said it was a pretty cool idea so we decided to do it together. I have no idea about the coding process, but Dean worked like a machine and got it done.

The actual front-end is very user-friendly though, training is created just like wordpress posts and pages.

It was (and still is) pretty hectic. Having Dom on board, plus getting feedback from other friends really helped, as personally I would have missed something being so close to the code. Which is why we are after beta testers, having a third party, unbiased viewpoint will really help us see if there are any issues and how the user experience is, whether good or bad.

There is sooo much to do though beyond even the coding: making a site (including setting up affiliate systems, payment systems, etc), videos, documentation, and lots more.

It also wasn't cheap to do; barring time, we still pumped money into it in order to deal with things that would either have taken a long time to do ourselves or were simply beyond us (logo and e-commerce system for example).

If anyone is contemplating making a plugin (either themselves or by hiring someone) then I would strongly suggest having a good plan in place and to set out realistic time scales and to be prepared to revisit and change that plan regularly. Also expect to either have to pay for some things or to increase your workload/timescales to include the extra work.

Still, at the end of the day, Dom and I are proud of this, we think that although it's a fairly niche plugin, that there is a market for it. On that note, I would still suggest to anyone reading that you also do market research prior to investing time and money.

My advice if anyone else is thinking about a similar project:

* plan, plan, plan
* expect to spend some money
* expect it to take longer than you thought
* research!
* test, test, test
* expect to have to deal with things outside your comfort zone
* just do it! Sometimes you just have to give something a try!
