When your niche has a QSR of 400,000,000

YUP, that's right. And according to a few sites I've read, there are actually 1.2 MILLION travel blogs currently. I have officially picked the most saturated niche out there...it seems.

This is a depressing day. I knew there were a lot of travel blogs, but no where in the 6 figure range. Once again, should have followed the training a little better and maybe done some keyword searches beforehand lol

Instead, I just went with what I'm passionate about, and decide to roll with it. But, like SarahL has already wrote about, sometimes your passions are not your best niches.

So, I either go back to the drawing board, or continue to try to be unique in my current niche.

The best part about being here at WA, is that I have the opportunity to create more sites as I please. I was just looking forward to working with this one. BUT, maybe my overly saturated niche was the reason for my road blocks....... something to consider!

Maybe take a step back for a moment. Make a list of other things you enjoy and are passionate and knowledgeable about and do some KW research on those. You could begin thinking about another site and maybe even set one up. Then come back to your first love and look at it with fresh eyes and then see how you feel about moving forward? I hope you feel more confident about things very soon because you come across as a lovely, caring person, whom I know the readers will engage with :)

Aww thanks Jude! That was very kind of you. I've actually done exactly that. I looked to Google last night for different niche ideas, and came across one very quickly that I think will be a gold mine for me and I know nothing about it, but will be really interested in learning.

Honestly, I think my problem has been lack of interest. When I already know about something, I find it hard to constantly talk about. I love travelling, but that conversation can get old quickly. I'm not saying I'm going to abandon ship on it. But it'll more be a recreational side project.

I think when it comes to building your own business, you have to find what works for you. Just because something interests you, doesn't mean you can make a successful business out of that. For me personally, I know I love talking and sharing new information that Im learning about. So I think it's important for me to build something that I wI'll be able to produce constant flow of content with an endless desire to learn about.

Pffewww. That was a novel lol but you get my point. Thanks for the endless encouragement Jude :)

Not at all, I'm glad it helped a little. I'm sure you will make the right decision and I know you will have passion in what you end up moving into. :)

There are a lot of niches within travel. My niche is also in travel but its specifically on the georgia coast .also beach vacation rentals. So narrow your your niche to a specific area or need such travel accessories hotels places to stay etc. So don't give up on travel and maybe u and I can help each other. Ive got a a lot of links to information doing a travel site and how to make it stand out..i have an article that said there are lots of travel blogs but most people rant really interested hearing about what a good time u had on vacation people want info and why it would be a great place for them to visit. Ill send the link later. Here's one link http://www.copyblogger.com/travel-blog-tips/

Georgia

Thanks so much for this Georgia! I'm not going to give up on it, I think I just need a breather from it until I can think of how to target a specific audience.
What you're saying is true, you need to really narrow down your niche and be more of a service to people.
I love my website and by no means am I going to delete it. I just need to find my inspiration on how to help people with their travel.

Im kenneth from georgia ☺ill reply more next time. At work right now

oh opps lol I should have looked at your profile first. Sorry :P

Its ok. I thought it was funny. I actually thought someone would think it was my last name

lol Well you just signed off as Georgia, so without doing any further investigation, I figured it was your name. haha
But since you live there, it's good a good nickname! lol
I checked out your sites, very nice!! Maybe you can recommend an e-cig for me that won't break the bank. I'm desperately trying to quit and will power is not working lol

Brooklyn - think of it as a huge opportunity. There may be a lot of sites out there, but if you can get even remotely near the top, then you are going to make a LOT of money!!
David

Thanks David! Yes it's something I'm going to continue, I just need to find what's going to work best for me. And how to stand out.

That makes it a great niche actually. that means there are a lot of buyers. It might be difficult to rank number 1 on google with that particular keyword but then again what good is it to rank #1 on a keyword that has

Good advice. I liked hearing this from you from a traveler perspective. What info is a traveler searching for. On my site Iam also going to provide the weather during the different seasons and a map. Iam doing everything your advice said, your words really encourages me. Ive been searching what travelers are searching for and you gave me the answer I have been searching for. Thank you.!!

Georgia said it best, and thank you for this. :)

That's how we learn, by making small mistakes. You can find another niche and get the traffic you need to succeed. Keep it going, push through you'll get there!

Thanks Mary! That's the best part is that we have the ability to market so many different things and own different sites. I'm not sure if I could ever work on 3 sites at once, but two would be great variety!

Lol..you're a glutton for punishment!! I appreciate your enthusiasm for your future dreams. Keep up the good work.

Hey, I can't top Boomer's comments or the suggestions Steph Hill gave you, except that in travel there is so many sub-niches.
1. Problems with travel agents
2. Designing your own travel itinerary
3. Region specific
4. Singles travel
5. Grey Nomads travel
6. Travel accessories
7. Best and worst airlines
8. Most comfortable aircraft

etc, etc.

You can make something happen. Go for it.

Those are really awesome suggestions! Thank you :)

As we have all read and discussed. This is a learning process from the very beginning. BUT persistence will prevail.

Thank you! !

Just because a niche is saturated does not mean you cannot profit from it. As long as you find keywords with a low QSR and craft your content with them, you should be able to get a piece of the big money pie.

Video games is a very saturated niche, probably more so than travel, yet I was able to make money in it. And where did you get that QSR from. I hope it wasn't from the first page of Google, because that number is a false result.

You only get a fairly accurate result by placing your search querie in quotes and then clicking all the way to the very last screen of the search results. It is there where you will see a more accurate QSR. Results on the first page are a combination of relevant results, not what you actually typed in.

Yes I that's exactly where I got my info from -first page. I had just finish reading from another travel blogger how many sites there are and competitive it is (I'm sure he might have been trying to discourage further competition! ), and I decided to search for myself.
But everyone is right. I think I just need to find my edge on how to stand out in this crowd. I'll find it. But until then, I need another direction to focus on. I know they say not to work on more than 1 site at a time until you have the first one up and running, but if I can't get my creative juices flowing, I'm just wasting my time. And time is money. So I'd rather work on another project until I can find some clarity on my first love - my travel site! :)

Understandable. That is what I did.

Hi Nicki, mine is at 189,000,000, so I have a chance :). Maybe our content will be so spectacular that they can't resist our sites, one can always hope. Good luck!

Hahaha dude, you're golden!! Lol
Yeah ill find it. But I'm also a multi Tasker. So I'm going to try juggling another site too until my creativity come back flowing in for my first site :)

Here are some suggestions:

1. Can you narrow your travel niche down to something like:
a. A specific region
b. A specific continent - "Traveling Antarctica" as an example
c. How to find Sponsorships for your travel blog. Companies that will pay you to travel and in exchange you advertise their product on your website. For example, an airline might pay you to go travel somewhere or give you a huge discount and in turn you promote them on your website. There are people you do that.
d. How to Pack (show people how to pack and how to avoid airline upcharges on luggage, etc)
e. Different food and cuisines of the world

I hope these ideas generate some thoughtful processes for you on how you can narrow your niche.

Very good information here. Thanks!

This is awesome. Thank you so much. Lots to consider!! I appreciate it :)
