The endless potential of Google Plus
Just a short post this Friday..
As someone who has NEVER used Google+ before, I just discovered the amazing benefits of being able to reach SO MANY PEOPLE!!
I had signed up for Google+ about a year or so ago when it first came out, for no other reason other than, Why not. I didn't have a picture, email , nothing. I just joined that's it!
Today, I had remembered that in one of my lessons here, Kyle had mentioned about setting our sites up on our Google+ account and he spoke briefly about how great of a media site it was. I didn't pay that much attention to that part and just thought it was another way of getting your name and site out there - and it was something else that I had to add to my "To do list".
Well today, again I will mention how I never use Google+, I decided to set it up a bit and maybe start putting some content, pictures and branding info on it. I was floored to discover that I had 11,612 views!!! (Imagine if I had my site finished and posted on there!!) I only have 9 followers!!! Either I have some serious stalkers, or people are finding me for whatever reason, and I can really take full advantage of this media source to be able to reach thousands if not millions of people.
When you hear people talk about using social media to promote your site and branding yourself, my first thought is always Facebook. Facebook has always seemed like a dead source to me because I know from trying to promote past MLM's on Facebook, it got me 1 or 2 sales and annoyed everyone else. FB is about as deep as your social circle allows it to be. Which in most cases, a lot of us don't have more than a 1000 friends, and no one ever really wants to be bothered on their newsfeed about another promotion, when there is enough ads included on there now with the new changes to FB.
But maybe it's just me being new to all of this and how you can really get yourself and products/sites out there. I think I may have to go over a few of the lessons again to make sure I didn't miss anything, but today was an interesting eye opener to discover how you can really market yourself without really trying at all!!

That's interesting Nicki. I signed up for Google+ just a few weeks ago after hearing everyone on here talk about it. That is the ONLY place on social media that I have promoted anything from my website. I have a personal Facebook account but haven't wanted to deal with the frustration of that or Twitter (never even used it) etc. We need to connect on G+!

Yeah I'm not even going to promote anything on my Facebook. Mine is just for personal stuff too. I've tried promoting on there before and no one ever cares. It's such a waste. If anything, i may just share a few of my posts that I write after I write them, the same way I should share any other interesting post that I read. And Twitter, haven't mastered that one yet lol I have IG, but .....I'll get there too!!
Oh, sorry! I am at work and can't get to Google + from here since it's blocked so I couldn't look. I haven't had time to look at it in a few days! I am glad we are connected!!!!
No worries. I just added a ton of people today myself and since we all go by handles here, and our real names on Google+, I have no idea if I some of the people I added are my usual comment buddies on here, or people that I've never spoken with lol
Maybe it's my age but I don't "get" Twitter at all. I actually have less than zero interest in it.
hahahah I think it might be more of your Common Sense than your age!! I don't get the hype either, never have. All it is is just a bunch of "status updates" really. It is useful for me for Toronto Transit updates for when I go to work and there is a delay on the subway. But i never go on it and just read people's threads. It sounds like a way for people to just run nonsense out of their mouth for the sake of getting the most retweets! But, apparently it's a great way of getting a lot of traffic. So, one of these days I will have to put some undesired effort into it posting on that site lol

Yes it is, but like most things (for me anyways), we're numb to it until we have a use for it!

That's what I thought!! I was floored to see how many people has viewed just my little icon guy as a profile picture and absolutely no info! Maybe there's a porn star or something with the same name as me, I don't know, but it was pretty amazing to see!! lol

That's so awesome. Wow, what a tons of views. I always thought of Facebook as a great source of online media for me to use and market to people but also find it difficult to use. I created a new account just for marketing my website and then created a page linked to my website as well. I test out the paid ads/traffic to my page and got about 500 likes for $5. Not a ton but a start. It's hard to use affiliate links on Facebook sometimes and can be very discouraging. It just seems to get more and more difficult.
I like connecting with people through my new Instagram account but still cannot use links the way I want to. I use it more as an inspirational tool than anything, hoping people will look at my bio and go to my website.
Twitter has gotten me the most traffic. By using Google URL shortener, you can submit any link and get a shortened version of it which is perfect for Twitter since you are so limited on characters, especially when you add a picture to it. I still haven't done much with Google+ but you've inspired me to take a look.

That's what I thought too about Facebook. But I know how hard it is to push anything on there and I feel like everyone is just judging and/or ignoring you. lol
I still have to fix up my Twitter account. That's something else that I never use and should really utilize.
I feel like Google+ is a great way to market anything the way they have it set up. I'm planning on setting up mine the way that I should I could have fixed up my FB account for just business. Right now it's more of a 9 year flashback of all the crazy things I've done - caught on camera!!! lol
That's okay. It shows that you are human. If you want to keep your personal life separate though, you can always have a different one. I use a different email, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and everything for my site. That's just me though : )
I have a full-time job so I don't want to have a conflicting personal account that shows another "job" that they are unaware of.

Thanks for the heads up. I thought of Google + as just a FaceBook wannabe and since all I got on FaceBook was a bunch of "likes" I assumed more of the same.
You still may just get a few likes on there as well, but you can reach a far larger audience! Plus, the entire platforms appears to be marketing based, so it's a really great place for us to create some good authority!
