MacBook Air problems

So my techy friends, I seem to be having an issue with my laptop. I know that we all usually discuss here any website related issues, but since I know a majority of people here might be running Apple OS, I though that I would give it a shot to see if anyone here can help me with my issues before I look else where.

So I have a 2011 MacBook Air, and my housemates son was downloading modes for his PS3 games on it, but deleted them after he saved them to his USB.

Ever since, I've been getting pops like crazy, or click on something and a new window pops up for an ad and I have to X out of it right away. It's been super annoying to say the least.

Now tonight, I'm on the WA website, and I cannot post comments (they just disappear once I press the "reply to comment" button. I cannot even get to my profile when I try to click on it. And several other site related issues.

I've looked at my Safari settings, and it says that all of my security is correct and enabled and pop-up blockers are on.

Is there a way that I can reset it to the factory settings like you do to an iPhone, or does anyone have a simpler solution because I am ready to throw this thing through the window!!!!! OMG! lol

I also don't have any security running other than what comes on the computer (OS security).

Any suggestions would be greatly helpful!!

Thanks friends :)

Fixed the problem myself...I just reset the whole thing back to the factory settings.

I haven't downloaded any apps on it that I really care about and I save everything onto Dropbox, so I am not too worried about losing anything.

But it did feel like an accomplishment that I was able to restore it all myself without having to go to the Genius Bar.

It wasn't really that hard to do, but with every little computer tech milestone, I am feeling more and more confident with everything that I do online. I literally feel like I'm learning something new every day, and I love that.

Thanks everyone for all of your helpful suggestions and ideas. I really appreciate it.

Now, I'm going to enjoy having my laptop back to normal again...it feels like I just bought a brand new one :) lol

Really well done for fixing it yourself Brooklyn - not sure I could do that! Correction - I'm pretty sure I couldn't!! :)

haha I had to Google how to do it, but it was a pretty easy fix. Could have been worse if I couldn't reset the whole system though.

Still, good thats its all sorted now! :)

Yeah thank God!! lol

Hi let me know did you fixed your issue or you manage to reset to factory or still you struggling

I just reset it. I didn't have anything on it that couldn't be erased, so resetting it seemed like the easiest solution. Thanks :)

That's nice you got nothing much Possible virus was the reason so be careful it not revert by any external source like usb or any thing

Ok thanks for the advice. I'll be sure to be more careful from now on!

If you are still struggling, go to 'adware medic', see what they can do. I thinks it's free

ok I'll try that too! Thank you :)

Hi, I have an apple too, and when I had problems similar to yours I took it into my nearest Apple shop where they ran a virus check for me and removed the problem site.
Apple are always so helpful, that is the best advice I can give.
Hope it helps :)

Thanks!! I think that will be my next move if I can't reset the whole thing myself. I don't have much stored on it (I usually store everything on Dropbox anyways), so to wipe it all clean won't be an issue.
But I will for sure be bringing it into Apple if this doesn't work.
Thanks for the help!!

You are most welcome Brooklyn :)

Sounds a bit viruslike, hope not. I'm on Windows so can't help beyonf that. Best of luck, though.

Yeah I think it's definitely a virus. Hopefully I get it sorted out soon. It's super annoying! ! Lol

Hi Brooklyn,
Wow!! that's terrible. I hope you get the problem solved soon. I had some trouble with my laptop a while ago. I had to have it worked on by a computer tech. My laptop is 5 yrs old!! I'm considering buying a new one in the near future. No more downloading games for you...lol!!

No kidding right!! It's was my house mates 11 year old son who was downloading. I had a bad feeling about it too lol I'm sure I'll figure it out soon enough. Thanks though :)

You can install Avast free program and scan your laptop for viruses. Alternatively, try this https://goo.gl/RGijEk

I think there's too many viruses for any free clean up program. I'm trying to reset it back to the factory settings now, but I'm having a hard time with it .

JamesBB is right. I am 100% chrome. Safari just has to many problems. Just sayin.

I wish it were that easy lol I'm having issues with Chrome as well. I think there's just something on my computer that needs to be wiped off.

HI there... I dont persoanlly know how to fix that but it is something that a Mac guru can fix in minutes. A work around is to use Google Chrome or FIrefox as your browser if you are using Safari at the moment ... this usually allows you to do stuff on the internet until you get it cleaned.
James

It sounds like something got left on your Mac. I have a mac and regularly run a program called " clean my Mac." First it scans and then you click clean. It doesn't cause any problems. Mine was running hot before I started using it.
It might be worth a try since it is free and you can find it in apps or Google search.

Marty

Thanks Marty, I will look into that now. I think I tried to get it before and it wanted me to make a purchase. But I'll see anyways. Thanks a lot for your help :)

I have"Clean My Mac 3"for free. Like James and Robert said it may be your server. Trying another server is also a good way to check.
I took mine to the Apple store and they worked on it for free.

Marty:-)

The guys at the Genius bar in the Apple hope advised against using that program! As I said higher up, they sorted everything out for me for free, and no ore problems :)

Was yours still under warranty? Mine'so a bit old, but I think I may just do that. I tried downloading Clean my Mac, but it said I have too many viruses for the demo version and would have to purchase a new version. I'd rather just reset the whole thing to the factory settings, which I'm trying to do. But I may just bring it in to Apple instead.
