Jealousy, Competition. And what's with all the former dreamers?

Hey, WA fam! To be honest, this is going to be kind of a long post because I have some things that I would like to say.

To start, I'm over the moon at this moment. Back let me give you the back story first!

So, those of you who have visited my Bio, know that I'm a screenwriter. Well, at least I'm trying to be, still very new to the craft.

And this is something I've been engaging with for a few months now. When I first realised that to write movies is what I really love to do, I knew that I'll need a lot of education. So I registered for online classes and that's how my journey began.

Long story short, a couple of months after I started those classes, I got invited to participate in a world-wide short screenplay competition. 5 pages short script, no choice of a genre. Oh, and only 48 hours to complete...Kind of impossible thing to do, but I guess they call it challenge for a reason!

And I couldn't wait to share the news with my newly founded friends in the classes. 98% of them were very supportive. But I'm writing this post because of the other 2%.

Here is where it gets really interesting...Quite frankly, I would respect these people more if any of them had the guts to say what they really think straight to my face. Unfortunately, I had to read between the lines. And their thoughts on the matter go like this:

"Are you sure you really wanna do this? You know, if you fail, and you most probably will, it can be make it or break it for a newbie screenwriter. I mean, you're not a part of the industry...You're not even a native American...The English is not your first language for crying out load..."

Woahhh...what just happend? I mean, I know that Hollywood and the movie industry is so competitive, but still... There is enough space and stories to tell for all of us, right?

It goes without saying that I didn't listen to them. I jumped in the competition no matter what.

And then the results came. I placed in the Top 15. Number 11 to be exact. From 4,000 people.

Even more, get that - none of my well wishers managed to place before me.

In the end of the day, professional screenwriters with 5,10 years of experience, living in L.A got their ass kiucked from a newbie Bulgarian girl. How about that?

It turns out the judges don't care for a typo or two, they care how good the story is.

And wait for it, exactly those people were the first to congratulate me. Man..

"You go, girl! I knew you could do it!"

So, the whole point why I'm writing this post is this:
If you really like to do something, don't let the formers dreamers mess with your dream just because they forgot how to believe in theirs!

When you know who you are and what you're capable of doing, the sky is the limit.

Personally, I got to experience a really empowering moment. I got to have the last word.

All my "screenwriter friends" got answer to all their messages:

"How do you like me now?!
