One Person For 5 Minutes. A Million Times Over

Being new to the online business world is rough, lemme tell ya. I'm so far behind in my understanding of this entire internet world, it makes my head spin when I start trying to learn and understand things like Search Engine Optimization, WordPress, Web Design and so forth.

But what really gets me is creating quality CONTENT. This is a real challenge, as you have to take into account other people's possible perception of your writing.

That's scary, because you realize that if people don't like what you write, not only are they going to leave your site, they may even trash you in a public forum, which can be a big hinderance if you're trying to make money online.

I Picked A Niche I Liked, But...

But you're realizing there's a lot more to it than just writing one or two blog posts explaining your feelings on the subject, right?

I picked Auto LED Accessory Lighting as my niche, because let's face it, those glowing cars are just so cool when you see them driving by. However, as I started trying to produce content for this niche, I discovered that it was easy to do the first 2 posts, laying out the pro's and con's of accessory lighting, but after that, where do I go?

How in the world am I going to pull out 30+ posts about LED lighting?

Research Is EVERYTHING

As I write this post, I have about 15 different tabs opened, looking for anything and everything I can find to write about this very specific niche. At the same time I'm wondering how to turn any of it into a 1500+ word post that isn't just me talking about how cool I think these lights are.

From what WA training tells us, you want to be informative more than sales-y, but when you're dealing with an aesthetic product like mine, the "information" you find is pretty technical. And honestly, if you're trying to ultimately guide your guests into purchasing a product, the last thing buyers really want to read is specs on light strips.

So when I'm researching, I've started looking more at customer reviews and less at specs. Remember, customer reviews and ratings are coming from BUYERS after purchase. The topics they discuss will tell you exactly what buyers want to know, what they wish they had known before purchasing, and what exactly appeals to them.

The more you can find out about how different products in your niche are perceived by the people who already bought them, the better you'll be able to overcome any buyers remorse in the long run. If you can overcome objections pre-emptively in your post, by being open and real about both positives AND negatives, your guests will feel much more comfortable making a purchase from your site.

Ironically enough, just the insight I've gained from reading what people think about certain products has given me a laundry list of possibilities for content.

Write Something YOU Want To Read

Kyle says it in his training about keyword-based content, find a few good keywords, find a way to use them in a conversational manner a couple of times, and then focus on writing NATURALLY. If you're just trying to force low-hanging fruit keywords into a post and get your word count up without focusing on the actual subject, your post is going to be difficult to digest.

People can tell if you aren't actually convinced of the things you write about.

So how do you stop the word-filling habit? Just stop looking at your word count. Try to understand the subject fully, just start typing as if you're writing a book. Everything has its own story, you just have to find the story within the subject, and write your post for READERS, not BUYERS.

Google is first and foremost a platform for readers and writers, a big information database that doubles as a sales platform. This is the thing I think we all don't realize easily, because when we want to buy something, we just do a Google search, find the product, and we buy it.

This is why Kyle and all the more successful bloggers in WA stress quality content over salesmanship when it comes to getting organic Google rankings. Google has been programmed to weed out spammers, and as we all know, spammers are just basically used car salesmen throwing ad after ad in your face until you're pressured to buy something.

Do you enjoy reading advertisements? Do you even actually READ an advertisement, or do you just grab the product name and the premise of what it is, then do a search for ACTUAL information on the product?

That's where you want to be, you want to be the information that people are looking for, not the product.

Don't Give Up, Just Take A Break

Am I the only one that gets overwhelmed when trying to finish a post?

Ya get halfway through, it sounds good so far, but you're realizing that you've covered basically all the bases in the first 700 words. WRONG. You just covered the bases that you feel are relevant. I promise, there is more to say about any given subject, but you can't seem to figure it out.

So stop trying to figure it out.

Put the laptop down, and go do something else. Go clean the house, or play with the kids, or take a shower. Do anything but trying to write. When you have completely broken focus on the subject that's overwhelming you, your brain will start processing it subconsciously while you're busy.

Then when you come back to it later, whether it's just a couple of hours or the next day, you'll find it easier to elaborate on your existing content.

How Long Did It Take To Read This?

Not long, right? This is a little over a thousand words, and it took you about 5 minutes to read.

Keep that in mind when toiling for hours over writing a post. Your readers are going to spend a total of about 5 to 10 minutes reading it, maybe throw a comment or click on an affiliate link, then they'll probably never read that post again.

So in reality, you just have to entertain and inform ONE PERSON for 5 minutes. Kinda throws the importance of your content into perspective, huh? If your content is good, they may refer it to a friend as a source of information, but you're not working on a masterpiece here.

The masterpiece will be the totality of your site after a few years, when you are recieving high volume traffic because you entertained and informed ONE PERSON for 5 minutes, about a million times over.

Great points you cover here Bobby. It is worth gold and saving for rereading from time to time.

I have started using the Search at the top when I confront subjects that I am having problems with. I find many interesting articles not only from Kyle but from many of the very Succesful marketers in the Community of WA by doing this.

Interesting that your Niche is LED lighting for autos. There was a Comment post yesterday in SITE Comments on that very subject. I knew nothing about LED lighting and was at a loss to make a comment on it, so I passed it up.

Thank you

Sonny

You have this whole content thing down brilliantly..keep this post in your mind going forward and you will so great!!
I know i will thank you ☺

Hey, thank you Cathy! It's funny, I seem to be a lot more proficient at writing self-improvement posts like my blogs on WA, than I am at writing content for my chosen niche. It takes me only minutes to write a thousand words about making yourself better, but if I have to review LED products, it can sometimes take me a couple of days to get the information to come out sounding coherent. Maybe I will end up capitalizing on this at some point, I know health and self-improvement is a HUGE market right now. My fiancée just started with WA, and she's doing a site on PCOS and healthy living. It will be cool to see how our two completely different niches perform side by side.
Anyhow, I'm glad you enjoyed my post, and it means a lot thinking that you gained something valuable from it, so thank you again. I wish you great success, and I hope you have a wonderful week!
Bobby

I really like this post and think it's going to help me quite a bit.

I am going to mark this for future reading. As I will be using it's content to help me focus.

Thanks Wayne

Thank you Wayne, I'm glad it helps! I guess you're an exception to the statement I made about people never reading it again, huh? That's good stuff, man, I appreciate it.

The way I figure it, I read someone else's ideas on how to focus, started trying to apply them, and now I gotta pass it along. That's the only way humanity will grow.

Thanks again Wayne, I'm sure I'll see ya around!

Bobby

Hi Bobby, I'm right there with you on all the tabs open and taking breaks as well. I get so involved I just keep researching and then I lose focus on what I want to write. I try to get up and walk around once an hour when I'm sitting at the computer for long periods of time.

I've started saving sites as favorites so I don't lose track.

Very well written!
Cal

Hey thanks, Cal! I appreciate knowing that I'm at least practicing the right things. I just started delving back into the internet about a year or so ago, and never had I even considered it to be a platform for ME to make money with. But since I made the decision to make this my thing, I'm trying to learn a whole new set of operating procedures. This is a much different field than the labor force I grew up in, instead of working my body to death, I'm now working my BRAIN to death. The greats in this field all agree, ya gotta calm the brain.

I agree, I did law enforcement for 23 years, this is a lot different. I'm learning a lot and having fun. And, I haven't made a dime yet. If I ever do make any money with this it will be great.

I thought the same thing Bald Eagle thought. But no way.

I love your writing style. You have a special way of reaching your reader.

You clearly have this figured out. Great post!!!!

Laura

Aww, thanks Laura! That means a lot, I never really know how my stuff will be perceived, so it's cool to me that maybe I'm ACTUALLY relaying the messages I want to. I'm trying my best not to sound preachy, cause let's face it, we're all humans, and none of us has room to preach ANYTHING. Honestly, half the time I write stuff like that, I'm basically writing to myself, so maybe I'll start listening.lol

Just be you. That is who the world will love.

Laura

When I started reading this I thought "This man clearly needs help"

How wrong I was - you're well on your way. Great writing skills - now go light those skills up with LEDs.

I'm crackin' up over here... "This man clearly needs help". My fiancée says the same thing. hahahaha!
I appreciate your confidence, I'm only a month into this whole internet thing, so I'm trying really hard to grasp everything. Figuring out coping mechanisms as I go, maybe one day my site will be an authority in the field.
Thanks for the follow, I'll add you as well.
Have a great day!
Bobby

Always listen to the woman in your life my friend.

You'll be fine - :)
