Who Wins The Race? The Tortoise Or The Hare?

So I just finished Level 2 of the WA training and I am writing the final blog post for that training. I have not found the answer yet to the title's question but I have at least identified myself as one or the other. I am definitely the tortoise in this race!

I am just thankful I don't look like him(or her). Completing Level 2 is cool. How do I know I'm the tortoise? My last WA blog post was a year ago. Now that's Slowwwwwwww!

That doesn't mean I've been sitting around doing nothing. I do have a published website that has been indexed by google with 11 articles published so far. I'm just not sure if anyone is actually reading them. Yes, I have paid for comments through WA but on the WWW I really haven't gotten any feedback yet.

I enjoy the educational platform here and I am motivated to succeed but I do have 2 problems I have to solve. The first one is time management. I work 2 jobs neither of which I'm interested in keeping long term. That helps me with my own motivation but the 2 job syndrome eats away at my daily time. Not making excuses just stating a fact. I have to get better at time management no question.

My second issue(it's not really a problem) is goal setting and focus. Kyle is right you have to have a written plan. So moving forward, my week will run Monday to Sunday. Sunday night I will focus on writing out my daily and weekly goals for that new week. If I don't do this, it may be another year before I post a WA blog.

When I started here, I knew I was technically challenged. I still have those issues, but never in a million years did I think I could build a website on my own. Now let's see if "Build it and they will come" rings true. I still have a lot to learn and am looking forward to Level 3.

What muddies the water for me is the technical side. It is a weakness that I need to work on. Most people work at what they're good at and hide what they are not. The best analogy I can give you is what happened to Larry Bird after his rookie year with the Boston Celtics.

He was voted rookie of the year and in his second season led the Celtics to an NBA championship. However, a flaw was detected in his game. He was always using his right hand for everything and teams started overplaying him to his right side daring him to go left. His turnovers went up and his average point total declined. This is hidden in his career stats. His second season his average point total per game was only -.1 from his rookie season but his average minutes played per game was significantly higher at +3.5.He should have been scoring more points.

How many players in pro basketball had the kind of success he had in their first 2 seasons? Most would be satisfied and wouldn't even think they needed to improve. Not Larry. So quietly in the summer between his 2nd and 3rd year he worked hard going to his left and using his left hand.

When his 3rd season began, teams were still overplaying him to his right. He would blow right past them going to his left! It took awhile for the other teams to adjust but his numbers improved! He was now getting fouled more often because defenses couldn't stop him. In other words he took a weakness and turned it into a strength.

I'm not saying I'll be able to turn my technical weakness into a strength but I draw on this analogy to at least improve in this area. Without WA, none of what I've accomplished so far would have been possible.

In closing, I need to improve my focus. Time for written daily and weekly goals. Improve my technical skills. I call what I've done so far small victories and I'll take them.

This race is far from over. The hare has sprinted out to a big lead( I need a pair of binoculars to see him)

As long as I keep moving forward I'll catch up to him and with any kind of luck pass him along the way!

This journey is a Marathon as opposed to a Sprint, Bob! I am a tortoise too, my friend!

Keep moving forward. You WILL get there!

Jeff

Well said Jeff. I’m driving with no reverse.

Well done, Bob!

The tortoise wins because the hare was so confident in his lead that he decides to take a nap and the tortoise passes him by to win.
