Not sure about niche and not good at writing

I'm really not sure what I would like to write about. First of all, I am not a good writer. I don't think I've lived an interesting life. I'm always full of self doubt. I recently started doing graphic design from home due to being laid off. My husband was also laid off about 7 months ago.

My daughter had started two new ventures and also recruits people to join in, so I mostly have done business cards/print material for her and her recruits. I always end up looking at the designs and hoping they'll like it and always doubting but they end up telling how awesome they are and how excited they are, so it keeps me going.

I love graphic design, but never went to school for it. Everything I've learned was from the web and through trial and error. I've still got so much to learn and always searching for tutorials.

My husband was recently diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and will be going into surgery next week to have it removed. So my mind is certainly not on trying to find work because I want to be there for him during his recovery.

For that reason, I was on the internet thinking there must be a way for me to be able to make money from home but then also thought blogging wasn't for me. Then I came across WA and realized how much I can learn from this site and all it's members.

I do have a question for everyone. Let's just say for example, I would like to write about cancer and nutrition? I'm not that knowledgeable but I have come across so many sites that I would like to copy certain sentences or paragraphs from. Is that even allowed? Do I have to ask them for permission?

I've got way more questions, but I haven't gone through all the lessons yet, so I better start there first.

Thanks WA for giving me hope for the future.

Rose, like you, we feel aren't good writers, it is important to give us the opportunity to try and not give up before you start. I hope everything goes well in the surgery for your husband, I ask God for strength for you and him in this process.

I am feeling very positive about everything right now. Thank you so much!

Hello Rose, I am not sure what is a good or bad writer. One of the things I do is to just write what is in my head, get it down on paper or computer, before I forget. Once it is on paper I review, research to make sure my content is factual and then I ask someone to proofread. Many authors have been rejected before obtaining success. The main thing is that you are interested in the topic/niche and can find material that you can use in your blogs.

Hi Bluerose, sorry if this is a bit "in your face" but how do you know you're not a good writer? Who told you? I read a story recently about someone who was told in no uncertain terms that their writing was awful & they should never ever write again (& this was from their uni professor). So they didn't - for the next 15 years.
One day a chance chat led to a discussion with a professional screenwriter who offered to send this woman's manuscript to their agent. The result ended up being the Jewel in the Nile series of books which were turned into the hit films starring Michael Douglas & Kathleen Turner. Not bad for someone who couldn't write eh?

Write from your heart, there are plenty of online resources to help your increase your skills & confidence in this - & other areas of your life.

Your husband's cancer is a horrible thing for both he & your family to have to go through & you'll all have to find strength you didn't even know you had. Writing about it & helping others in the same situation could be a way to turn something bad into something good (quite apart from any financial gains).

I hope the story inspired you a little, you can do this and I send love & prayers to you all for a speedy recovery for your husband.

Thank you so much for your encouragement. I will try my best to write my thoughts down and see where it takes me. You're all an inspiration to me and I'm so glad I joined this community.

Hi Bluerose :) It seems like you are passionate about informing others about how to take care of themselves if cancer is a factor. My best wishes are with you and your husband and your family.

As far as blogging about it, there is nothing wrong with doing research and learning from others and gather accurate information, but you will not be able to use their sentences word for word. Google will recognize when content is duplicated and that will KILL your ranking. You will have to put the information you learn into your own words.

Hope this helps!

-Denise

Thanks Denise for that information.
