About advertising...

I recently discovered a few things about advertising that most of us have forgotten.

Do any of you remember the days of door to door salesmanship? Do you remember their attitudes? Were they personable or aloof?

If I remember correctly, they were friendly, they remembered my interest, they were interested in me! They were polite and always helpful.

Most days people are pushy now, they dont take no for an answer, then they try to take advantage of me and make the price higher, they dont care about me, they only care about what they can get from me, my wallet actually... SUCKS! And this is what people are being taught!

So what can we do about it?

You can learn to be the better salesman. This is what advertising is all about! It's about salesmanship in PRINT!

Offer honesty, respect. Stand behind your product 100%.

Gain their trust thru free samples. free trials, money back guarantees at a no-risk for customers.

Dont even try to sell them, tell them about the product and what it has done for you, leave a link in case they want to learn more....

Maybe even offer them another product for free if they buy so many of product A.

Be interested in your customers, find out their wants, their needs, thru surveys, comments..ect.

Be polite, take no for an answer and find out what will make them say yes.

Be helpful and offer free valuable info on a regular basis.

Do research everyday on your niche, leaders are readers!

Dont sell to your customers, let them buy you!

Good post! Great advice!

This reminds me of my salesman days at Radio Shack back in the day. My manager would always tell me to approach my customer, probe or ask questions to find out their needs - spending a bit of time listening to what they are looking for, and sell them a product that takes care of their problem. It worked wonders! I guess a little personality and charm also never hurts anybody lol

I feel what you are saying, you and I know, first you better know your product and then you better know the competitions product. Then be genuine, in the concern for your prospects needs, solve their problems. I you do it with sincerity, and conviction and your even in the ballpark of relating to them you got a good shot of them wanting to buy from you.

Spot on.

Thank you

Well put.

thank you...i try :)

keep it up!

Thank you

Great message. (Not my experience of door to door salesmen - even 30 years ago I didn't find many of them very polite.)

oh really?, ours was very polite and helpful, and we always enjoyed his visits to see what new and interesting things he was selling. Those were the ones that were more successful, keeping there customers waiting for more. :)
