Getting in touch with our feelings.

For most of us our feelings are sub-conscious. They are down there somewhere in our deepest mind along with our values. They contribute to our gut feeling. People tell us to make gut decisions. I say NO, not unless you have actively thought about your values, your feelings and how they impact what you do every day.

For instance, we are taught from our earliest childhood to suppress our curiousity and learn by rote what we need to know to pass the test. We are taught to reduce risk by taking small steps and failing early. Give up and start working on something more likely to be successful.

Dream big and if you think your dreams are worthwhile never give up. Yes, you will need to break you goals down into small steps in order to get things done, but never lose site of your Big Dream.

If you want to do big things, you have to know your destination and set your course to success. If your ship gets caught in a storm of criticism, ride out the storm and get back on course.

Risk Aversion is the feeling that keeps us in our comfort zone and staying in your comfort zone will mean keeping the status quo. You will never be comfortable creating a new business startup. No one here at WA who is actively building a business is in their comfort zone. We are risking our money, our time and even our reputation to accomplish something that is important to us.

Many of us express doubt that we can do this. Many ask if they can make money at WA. Others ask how long it will take to create a livable income. Whether they realize it or not, they are expressing feeling of doubt and unless they replace doubt with more positive feeling of this is what I must do to succeed they are going to quit.

Complacency is the enemy of progress. If you feel complacent, you are content where you are and willing to drift on the River of Life. Success comes to those who want to reach the next port-of-call and are willing to paddle to get there.

Do you feel you are just average or perhaps you have your predetermined role in society. Women in particular have a problem with this and many have a feeling their role is to be mother and house keeper. Even if a woman is working she may feel reluctant to take a leadership role or try to do anything outside her job description.

Point is, we can leave our feelings in our sub-conscious and be driven by feelings we don't understand, or we can bring out feelings to the surface, face them, and overcome the negativity that is holding us back.

Thank you for this excellent review and reminder of why we are here...in WA and in life itself.

It is indeed right - we need to get out of our comfort zone in order to achieve our goals, what ever they maybe.

Fear can be a bad manager and a great "ego" justificator (I know there is no such word...and I am taking the copyright on it, it should be a word...haha) and Fear can keep us "comfortably" in our little "comfort zone" and manages us from there!

And remember - that comfort zone is so uncomfortable - really - when you look at it for what it is!

If we want to succeed here and/or in life we must know to put that fear away!

Your post has many good motivational points - and it is great to read and remember WHAT are we doing, and WHY do we do what we do!
Thanks for sharing this with us,
Orion

Hi Bill,
I see that comfort zone and complacency is a deadly force as far as succeeded in your goals.

Knowing your feelings and be willing to put in that extra to make your business go.

I have not always done that in the past.

But it is something to contemplate on.

Thanks for sharing.

Bill

I recommend a daily review either before you go to bed or first thing in the morning. Morning works better for me because if I am tired I have trouble thinking creatively. Actually I find late afternoon before I quit the days work the best time for me. I usually quit work around 5, go take a walk, come back and review my day and plan my evening and my tomorrow. I have a set of question I ask my self and several of them deal with how I feel about what I did to day. If I was feeling doubt about something what am I going to do to resolve that doubt.

I don't always accomplish what I had planned to do. "How do I feel about that?" becomes an important motivational question regarding my plans for tomorrow.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for your suggestions, they are most helpful. Some great advice.

Bill
