Trouble deciding on a niche

People have so much trouble deciding on a niche. Their problem is decision paralysis. That is because they haven't defined what they are interested in. Your niche is anything you're interested in,

Have an idea? Search for it on Google. Google will give you suggestions and tell you how many people are looking for that keyword.

What are your values?

Have you written down what values are important to you? When you have a clear understanding of your values make sure your idea is consistent with your values.

Now what are the most important things you want to accomplish in each segment of your life? Make time to work on each segment sometime in the year.

Want to make money on the internet

You want to make money on the internet. What you choose to do should help people and at the very least should not hurt them. Many of us start with the money making niche because WA is an affiliate program we can recommend without hesitation.

Choosing your niche

My niche is Emergency Preparedness. When evaluating it, here are some of the things I considered:

1. Can I help people? Yes. I might even save lives!

2. What risks does someone in the niche face? Actually, by being prepared a family is reducing their risk.

3. What is my competition? Kyle tells us, with a couple billion potential buyers on the internet, we do not have to worry about competition. In my niche, most of my competitors are anti-government conspiracy theorists. I am unique in that i want people to work with government but be able to depend on themselves.

4. I have both and interest and some expertise in the subject.

5. Being prepared and helping others be prepared is very important to me.

I've found my niche. Now I need to plan how I will develop an audience for my niche.

Who is my niche? Women with a young family.

Where does my audience hang out.

Write up a pitch for your project

When you have thoroughly researched your idea decide if it is viable. If you want to pursue it, write up a pitch for your project. In this case, its choosing your niche. Now, ask your mentors to evaluate it. Those people might be your board of directors or if you are working solo check your pitch out with your mentors here at WA. I trust people like Boomer, Loes, LabMan, and Martha Black. They are incredibly helpful people.

Don't pitch to people like your family and friends who have no knowledge of what you are doing.

When evaluating your pitch, look for black holes that might suck a lot of time, what sticking points have you overlooked? Make sure your pitch can be completed in two months. If not, start paring off the nice to have stuff that is not central to accomplishing your objective.

When you have refined your pitch you will have a narrowly focused project whose steps are clearly defined and have deadlines. You will know what must be accomplished in order to define a step as completed.

Make a two month commitment

Now comes the important part. Commit to developing your niche for two months. Design progects you can finish in that two month time frame. If you think a project will take longer than two months break it down into smaller chunks.

I can finish a website in two months. I cannot finish promoting my website in two months. In fact, I will never stop promoting my site. I can set up a Facebook fan page and a Facebook group within two months.

At the end of two months, evaluate your website and your progress. Are you on course to accomplish your vision? If not, where are you hung up and what course corrections must you make. Is this project worth your investment of fime and money? If not, you have found your mistake with only two months invested in it.

Take Action

Identify your failures early in the development process. Make your failures often and early. The important thing is to take action. If your niche is working, you will know within two months.
