Facebook didn't approved my ad request

Well, I have a website related to vaping reviews, blogs, product reviews etc. I just created an ad and applied with facebook which they have rejected saying that i cannot advertise tobacco, cigarette, e-cigarette. I don't know what this policy is. I was working on to move people from smoking and adopt vaping as a healthy alternate but facebook is not allowing me to do so.

I got a logo created and worked day and night so that my website is in good shape and i can start promoting my page and website, now they say it cannot be approved.

I am very disappointed as i think i have lost a huge opportunity of advertising my content and website. My moral is very down as i cannot think of any other platform as powerful as facebook. I know twitter is one but i don't see it as powerful when compared to facebook.

Any suggestions from your side?

Yes, I am not surprised by the refusal of Facebook for displaying your ad...They are risk-averse and since e-vaping and tobacco are now treated as one and the same for control purposes, it follows that they would not allow the ad...

There are other options such as solo ads you could explore, and there are a ton of websites that you could start making comments on posts, and possibly forums as well that you could join...I do not think it is impossible to market what you have, just challenging...

Look also at Reddit and any other social site that may have threads on vaping...You can find some of the biggest ones outside the known and familiar platforms by doing a Wikipedia search...

I believe like you that vaping represents a much better option than cigarettes and I while I do not agree with the move the government has taken regarding how it is classified (same rules as cigarettes), I am pretty sure it is about money (isn't it always?)...

Here in Dubai, there are also controls, but the market is still there, it's just harder to get ahold of...The same philosophy holds in that the government is trying to save potential smokers from this "lead-in" habit of vaping...

This ignores the studies that have been done on the habit (it does not lead to smoking), and also the other side of this equation: How many lives could be saved by smokers switching to vaping? Thousands, no doubt...

It is almost like marijuana, which is one that is largely getting past the big corporations (and they do not like it one bit)...States like Ohio (I think it was either Ohio or Indiana) where they tried to pass control of marijuana to 4 big corporations...

This is a fight for control of the market...That and the fight for the huge profits that are potentially there (and the profits lost if people stop smoking and start vaping)...

I urge you to fight the fight on this one...Vaping is not a big deal and it is NOT the same as smoking...Money is the fight here...Who will make it off the habits people have...

If corporations have their way, they will have a big piece of that pie that is growing daily...If cooler heads prevail, perhaps there are other outcomes that can be realized...

Good luck!

Hi Dev,
Thank you for the detailed and lovely response.
Yes there are useless controls being launched by FDA and it is a fight for money and control of the market share actually. Cigarette companies are giants and they do not want an alternative to capture their share of market. Of course vaping industry is not yet fully in the taxation system where as cigarette industry is and that too with huge taxes being generated out of it.
I have been in Dubai and Abu Dhabi for 8 years and recently left the country few months back and know their regulation about vaping as well. I know it is not allowed in UAE in general to sell vaping stuff. But if you go to Dragon Mart, you find Chinese shop owners selling vaping stuff under the table.
I was a smoker myself for almost 2 decades and thanks to vaping that i switched and living a lot improved life.

Regarding advertising the stuff, yes i'll explore the possibility of getting facilitated through other mediums and if not possible, the last option would be to move towards some other niche.

Best regards,

You can try Bing/Yahoo but I think you will find they have similar rules.
I got around this before when I was promoting make money at home opportunities on Facebook by using a landing page. It then redirected visitors to my site after giving me their email address.
The capture page did not mention work from home at all so Facebook approved the ad.
With this, you have to be careful the offer on the landing page is congruent with your audience's needs. Might be difficult in your case because you audience is very specific.
Perhaps you can look at it from the addiction angle rather than stop smoking. There are ways around it but you need to do your research on your audience and relevant keywords.
Hope this helps, good luck.
Cheers Kev

Thank Kev. I will try and play around with words used in the ad. I am really down. I am just searching other mediums to play with things.

As I said, try Bing. It is worth a shot.
You will run into roadblocks like this all the time, how you handle them will determine your success in your business. See it as a challenge, take the lesson and move on.
Cheers Kev

Thank you Kev for cheering me up. I'll definitely look into bing. Hope they'll allow promoting vaping website.

You are welcome. Read their advertising rules before you start, then you will know what you are dealing with. Cheers Kev
