Amazon is a great research source...you don't actually have to use them to sell anything! Especially read the product reviews or simply look up the top 10 or 20 products in EVERY category they have got!
I suppose you have done fairly well with Amazon. Great But I think passion plays a important part with a niche which is truly a niche. It is much easier to write content in my opinion on something I am deeply disturbed about or something i just love to do as folks are looking for a a service or product in which they can use and is helpful.
