Shiny Object Syndrome and Focus

Who out there has a brain that never shuts off? I mean literally, there are days where I can think of so many different business ideas I want to start and how to start them. Every day there is a thought about a different niche and how to approach marketing in that niche. My mind is like a pinball at times and I actually don't mind it. However, there are downfalls associated with this type of thinking and we can discuss that below.

Procrastination

When the mind is constantly in motion thinking of the next big thing (Shiny Object Syndrome), you really limit yourself in accomplishing any of your thoughts. Think about it for a minute. Today is the day you are going to start that blog or business. You have everything in place and you map out a beginning game plan. You stick to your plan for the first three to four days and maybe even a week. Then all of a sudden another idea or niche pops into your head and you begin researching. The next thing you know, the first project you started has been put on hold because now you have found something much better and think you can dominate for profit.

What is really happening here is that you are getting yourself caught up in the research and wish phase. You begin to research what you believe will be the next big niche or your idea can outrank and crush the competition already in the space. When in reality, you started something earlier that week and then placed that project on hold. Instead of actually working through a project and gaining traction, you are procrastinating and the mind has created a bit of scatteredness. Reading blogs, watching videos, taking countless training is a way we make ourselves believe we are being productive. In reality, just by doing those things we are procrastinating and putting off actually getting to work on the project itself.

Social Media Influence

Social Media is a great tool and one that is used widely in marketing campaigns across the globe. This avenue can be a great source of traffic and potential customers for your business. Think about the reach people are having on the different platforms. There are millions if not billions of people out there on social media. Just think if a fraction of a percent of those people were your paying customers. The possibility to build a full-time affiliate marketing business is endless.

However, if you are not using Social Media for the purpose of becoming the best marketer you can, there may be an issue. I constantly see many accounts of people claiming to be marketers who use platforms to sort of spam their promotions and products. There is an affiliate marketing course going around now that is being promoted by a company for a very low fee and you take the course for a certain amount of days. I created a Tik Tock account over a year ago when the craze first hit and all I seem to see on my stream is this one affiliate company promoting their course to teach everyone the exact formula for affiliate marketing.

I can see this as another way a shiny object is thrown in the face of those looking to create a real affiliate marketing business online for themselves. This is a form of distraction and some of the marketing tactics feel spammy as well. If you are on Tik Tock I am sure you know where this is leading and what product/program I am mentioning here.

Stay the Course

In closing, I would like to just say there is a great opportunity here for anyone to succeed. Once you immerse yourself in this platform, build relationships and get to the training, there is certainly nothing you cannot accomplish. Here at Wealthy Affiliate, there is a sense of pride and accomplishment once you complete a certain task. You are learning valuable skills by actually doing the work and learning the processes. These skills such as Keyword Research, copywriting, article structure, driving traffic, ranking in search engines are all applicable to different projects you will create. These skills are also transferable to creating an agency or doing freelance work.

By actually doing the work here within Wealthy Affiliate you will know how the industry works and how to pivot when changes occur possibly with google etc. This is not a place where you are going to just copy and paste this and swipe file that.
