Anyone else had a day like this...?

Last Update: May 04, 2014

Hi - hope you've had a better day than me.... Achieved every chore as a working Mum all weekend, and got the Sunday roast in the oven at 4.00 p.m. - day going well. Just about to sit down and get into WA - Yells from the paddock - horse going down with colic. Vet on a Sunday = $500 poorer. Horse trod on my sore foot (a whole one tonne of him - not sure if it is broken - will find out tomorrow) threw me into a pile of rocks (bit sore) and nearly killed the vet! After sedation - all went well for the horse but not for us - feeling sore to say the least. Finished tea, did dishes and computer wouldn't start for an hour and a half. Eventually had to do a repair on it with Windows. Tomorrow can only be an improvement, but back to work tomorrow.... another week started, again no WA work done! If you have any ideas on time management for Mums, I'd definitely appreciate them. It's okay you can laugh. I am now sort of.... just a bit in pain.

Hi my out back friend, good to see your blogging.

This has been said before --"it is not how hard you get hit and knocked down but that you did get back up "!!!

For every valley their is a mountain peek, Peeks and Valley's and there is plenty vegetation to eat for growth in the valley but on the peeks no vegetation to eat.

Why we want to grow in the valley, so we can climb up to that peek but no growth there , yes, great success. As we are there we can see the other peeks and know the ones that are higher than the one we are on.

So, we must have some valley trips to be able to get to the higher one . As we pass through the new valley we grow again so we can climb the next higher peek. It only stops when we get satisfied on the peek we like.

Well, Hope the days that have now come and went where better.

Your Coach Ed

Hi Berny, It is hard to say anything about your day. It would help to know the whole story. I always wanted to have a horse but I never could afford it. I did horse riding and I always had a accidents. Let me know what is happening if you like in PM.

Have had some crazy days lately myself! As I sat down Sunday to work on WA and my schoolwork..I got a call of bad news from my step-mom..she just found out she has pancreatic cancer. So was a sad day to say the least and I have had some gastric problems myself lately so that brought even more fright to my health issues. I am feeling better but am scheduled for a colonoscopy and blood work this week. I hope you are doing better and the horse too of course! As far as time-management, what usually works best for me is making a to-do list and prioritizing the list! Blessings to you and your family!

Might sound crazy but I would love a day like that. I love horses and I left school to work in a riding school many years ago. I don't have a horse now and I so miss the smell of them, the feel of their silky skin and that special bond which exists even when they have almost broken your foot. Glad to hear your foot is OK.

OMG, you really have had a bad day. My commiserations. Having had a broken foot myself, I hope that is not case for you. A car's wheel rolled over my left foot. I was fine until two hours later! Don't know, but a horse trod sounds a lot worse - ouch!

This has less to do with time management and more to do with the universe maybe telling you to slow down a bit. ~ Jude

Hi Berny,
Ooooh, what a day! It's certainly a scary thing to have a colicky horse and no fun having to call a vet in on a weekend.

It's not a picnic getting stepped on and thrown in a pile of rocks. Well, never had the experience of getting tossed on the rocks, but sounds painful. I've had the extreme pleasure of getting my foot stepped on though. Didn't break anything, but it sure felt like it, lol. I expected my foot to look like a pancake with toes, but somehow it was just very bruised.

I don't have any horses anymore, but with the dogs we have it seems these types of emergencies always happen on a weekend. Of course when it'll cost a lot more...;)

Well, it seems problems with the heater or plumbing seem to save themselves for weekends too, lol. Especially ones that I work at my job and am tired already, have only so much time to do this and that...

Anyways, I hope you and the horse are both doing alright and that your days ahead are much better than this one. Hey, they've got to be!
Best wishes :) -Sherry

Everything on the to do list gets postponed when a horse colics. Is your horse doing better? Scary stuff.

Hate it when life happens. Seems we all get hit with it now and again.
Hope the coming days will be better for you. Rode horses while growing up--been stepped on, kicked, bitten, rolled over on, been fallen on, and bucked off ECT. And still we love horses. LOL

Hi Berny, you sure had a swell day. But there are solutions (and curse me out if my humor takes the better of me)
First off, I would shoot the horse. Upside: No vet bills, no broken feet, no sore pile of rocks and the vet will survive and enjoy your dinner invitation.
You will have to buy a big freezer for all the horse meat, but you could afford it since you don't have to pay the vet any longer.

Who sedated the vet? I hope the roast survived all of that.
Your computer didn't start for 1 1/2 hours. I know why. It laughed so hard it couldn't breath.
And as far as you being a "Mum" as you guys call yourself (you know, we yanks prefer "MOM" as to avoid the old joke by lovingly adding a "Y" to MUM.......you get it? I kill myself)...........anyways, I was saying about you being a MUM, you only can blame yourself for that, and of course your hubby.
And where was he during all of this, I wonder?

On the serious side. You had a bad one and need some encouragement. Tomorrow, have someone start your computer 2 hrs before you get home. Then have a cup of tea, lock yourself in your office and "do same work". And stay away from the horse.......if the beast is still alive, I mean.

Hope I could make you laugh a little bit.

John, I don't know if you helped Berny out with laughter, but you sure made my day funnier, (of course, not at the expense of another WA'er, mind you, lol). By the way, how much do you charge per half-hour routine?

We all took turns between walking the horse and eating tea. It was hubby's time to have tea as I thought the male vet would be able to handle things, I sent him inside to eat tea as he had to get up for work at 4.30 am for work, and the horse took the better of me which that horse seems to love to do. Never again. Hubby had to take over again.

You can never anticipate the unexpected and if you do it means you have to make room for it willingly or not. That's life. I read something today that made me realize that life can't be taken too seriously. "Angels fly because they take themselves lightly" a quote by G.K. Chesterton.

Berny,as someone who loves horses I am glad your horse is alright. I am a HORSEPLAYER so I really don't have that set of problems much, but I can tell you that yesterday the Kentucky Derby ran and I left out one of the horses on the ticket that my handicapping partner was speaking of . This would have been a horse we were familiar with and knew the stable and the trainer and where the horse was in his conditioning. Most would not really have been following him. It did come in second and the 2$ ticket for the trifecta paid over 3k( had the !st and 3d place) So I thought you might enjoy that little horse story.I say that when those days come just look above the clouds because no matter how cloudy it gets, just above them it is ALWAYS a beautiful blue sky!!!!
Now about time mgmt for MUMS. I have been married over 37yrs and still can't figure out the 8th wonder of the world, How you moms do all you do for all of us. I know from a Dad and Grandad view I can"t believe how much you get accomplished. My compliments to you and all the other moms.
Wish you the best Berny in getting better and all the things you Do accomplish.

Well Berny sorry to hear that but at least you are here to communicate with us at WA.
So at least you got back on WA to sit down and let us know your day.

As for my day, yes I had a better day than you.
I also achieved every chore as a dad at home, wife came home from work didn't have roast but cooked some BBQ for the family but around 2pm rather than 4pm ( probably because I didn't have a horse to worry about).

I did get to sit down on the computer because I have no horse not even a paddock so no need to call a vet saved myself $500 in the process if I did have a horse with colic and had to call a vet. Thank you for the information re costs appreciated (note to myself don't get a horse especially one with colic).

I sat in a chair that is padded and not filled with rocks so that was good.

Didn't need sedation although a fine scotch would have been nice.

Oh you mean sedation for the horse. What horse? i said I don't have one. Were you not paying attention to what i wrote!!
Fortunately didn't kill the vet. BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE A HORSE remember so no vet required.

I did feel tired so I can partly understand how you feel (not), had my tea (actually it was a coke), I did do the dishes manually even though I have a dishwasher machine but normally I am the head dishwasher (sometimes you need to lead by example).

Computer was already on so no need to start therefore no repairs required. Again save my self time (time management is important Bernie leave the computer on next time).

Tomorrow is always an improvement as it is not the previous day great way to go forward.

As for ideas on time management for Mums being a Dad I won't suggest dads, that would on most part be counterproductive unless it's me of course (but I am just being modest) but maybe not being a mum would help more importantly not having a horse with colic and requiring to pay a vet $500 only to nearly kill the vet and sedating the horse that is only going tread on your feet and throw into a pile of rocks (ouch!).
This would have been even better for you had you not have that horse.
I hope you dusted off the rocks and dirt /dust before got back into the house that way you won't need to vacuum around the area with the mess you just made don't want to hear you are hobbling around while vacuuming.

I am not laughing at the moment need to concentrate on my typing which is no laughing matter.

Hope you are feeling a bit better and not just a pain in the A well you know what I mean.

Just to help you out I think you are awesome for caring about such lovely animals such as horses and looking after your family.
You have done great and they are more important than being in front of the computer WA or not.
Catch you next time my fellow Aussie even though you are from SA but we at NSW understand your torment and accept this as a fact of life in the City of Churches. heheh.
Take care and be well and get better Berny you are important here as well.

Trialynn - my week can only improve! Don't ever have a horse, they say poverty is owning a horse. I have 3. One horse was injured once and cost us $6,000 to treat. Just hoping it hasn't broken my foot too. At least my computer is up and running again.

Sorry to hear that you are hurt, nothing worse than a horse standing on your foot, sore or not! You would not like to hear about my day yesterday, I was going to write a blog about it, but now I would feel bad if I wrote about a good fortune day after reading about another WA'ers misfortune. It is just that it involved horses and working on WA website content, lol. My wife and I are childless except for the four legged furry variety so I am not much help on time management for Mums, but I can tell you there are plenty of Mums at WA that can put me to shame on time management that should be able to help you out, so keep the old chin up, I'm sure help is on the way. I will pray for a speedy healing of you foot, Jack
