Can a 50-something guy make the transition?

I’m a writer. Professionally, for three decades now. However, other than a few satisfying-but-not-great-income-producing books I’ve authored, most of my writing has been for others (including ghost-written books and articles). I have a full-time job. Actually two that equal one full time. One is in the world of finance. It's experiencing a downturn. But it's been good, both financially and in the sense that I've I enjoyed it. But I'd rather be writing all day. And that's my other job/work/thing - my passion.

Last year, about a third of my income was from freelance writing and editing. I'm looking into republishing some of my work on Kindle, and creating new books for Kindle, and I'm learning how to market Kindle books. But I'm also exploring the world of affiliate marketing. I've heard this is a great community. I'm testing the waters here. This could be a great landing spot.

Feel free to share any random thoughts on the nature of live, the universe and everything Thanks.

One of the things I'm wrestling with is, as you said Cibroooks, I have two or maybe three niches. It seems that the best thing people say is to focus on one. Is that true? If so, what advice do people have to help me focus on that one?

Yes it is true, especially if you have never designed a website or know anything about affiliate marketing. You won't have much choice focusing on just one to begin with. The easiest sounds like books to me. I don't know if you are going to do book reviews or how you would market them but you may be able to incorporate your own books into your website. You are not limited and if you are an author I'm sure you have a vivid imagination. I think that would help you move along a little quicker too. At least faster than I am able to progress - and my experience with this project is just that - my own as a newbie.

Some people have several websites. But you have to master one first.

How long have you been at it? What do you mean it's slow?

The training is self paced. I started beginning of April but I am disabled and have an adopted 4 year old who has developmental disabilities. Plus, I am not an experienced "writer" and I'm in the middle of a divorce, so the time I can spend is not ideal. My niche is also extensive (healing with neditation). If you would like to see my website the link is on my profile page.

Well, this is what I see. You are a professional writer. That definitely is a good starting point. I am 59 and just signed with WA in early March, so your "50-something" doesn't intimidate anyone and therefore shouldn't intimidate you. You have already listed two niches, maybe 3. You have authored books that need to be promoted, you can affiliate with Amazon to sell Kindle products and you have a background in finance that probably has multiple markets. There you go. Who knows what else you may find as you dive into the WA training.

Best of luck to you in your journey!!!
