I made a "mind movie" for my new website. I can upload it to the web server. But I cannot let it play on the part of my website where I would like it. I do not want to put it on

It still looks like a mission impossible. Every year wordpress has a limit that one can upload to a website. Very strange. Anyway this year it is 32 Mb it looks like. I have a video of 40 Mb and I just want to upload it to play it on my website. Because I have an excellent Dutch provider where I can host unlimited websites, with unlimited size of hosting, with unlimited traffic (unlimited gigabytes per month). So I could in principle upload gigabytes of videos, but wordpress says: 32 MB max. Talking about middle ages internet.

Maybe it is easier if i have a website provider that does not have a limit of filesize that i can upload. As soon as the video file is on the server, I have options. Then I do not have to use youtube or vimeo, or the google disc. I check this out.

I think I know a plugin that might work. But then I need an .mp4 video file, and of course I have another extension. And also there seems to some kind of limit of the video file size i can upload. Something like 30 MB. That will be also some limit by wordpress or by the website server.
It is the year 2015 I thought..... Still this is very difficult.

One guy responded - You can upload videos to Google Drive and link/embed straight from there. It gives you a YouTube style player without the video being on YT. I use that with success across all platforms

The free storage of Google Drive is limited in size but I ugraded mine for only 1.99/month.

I'm no expert with video really, but I thought I'd put in my two cents since it might help you.

If you need to convert the file extension from one type to .mp4 there's a site called Zamzar . com, which is free up to 100 MB per file. I'd leave the link, but I don't want to sound spammy. :) Just Google it and it should be the top one.

I've used it in the past and it works great...just follow the instructions there, steps 1 to 4 and you don't need to sign up either. You send them your file and give them your email and usually they have it done in a few minutes...they'll let you know it's ready through email with a link to your downloadable file...it's been a few months or so since I've used it last, so that's if I'm remembering correctly.

Hope this might help you and good luck in getting your video up and running on your site. Best wishes :) -Sherry

Thank you for the info. I tried it and it looks like this worked until 1 year ago. Then they removed the "embed" part, so I cannot embed a link into my post.

I checked further, maybe it is still possible. I only saw things on google that were at least a year old. And now the google drive layout has changed so it is hard to find. I could make a link that is visible on the web. When I click on it, I see the video. Not perfect yet, but I will check this week how to improve. Hopefully it is possible to really use the drive.

I have a few videos in drive and the option is still there but I have not tried it yet

But I just want to upload a video to my website: I have many gigabytes of hard disk storage. And I also have many gigabyte per month data transport. This means many people could watch my movie because I stream it myself from my website. I have to check Vimeo, but then still I do not know if that is the right idea. I already paied for my website hosting, so I need something to install in wordpress that will play my video.

You should be able to upload it via FTP to your website and then use the link to your video to put it in a post.

I wouldn't know that you lose the copyright on YT?!
As long as you don't publish it under creative commons nobody can reuse your video.
YT is actually very strict when you use videos without a licence. A quick way to lose your channel.

You could also publish it as "not listed" on YT, so nobody would find the video on YT without knowing the direct link or seeing it on your website.

I used ftp and when i insert it as a "media file" in the post, then when someone clicks on it, it will not be shown but it will be downloaded to the visitors computer. So I removed it from now.

I don't know if that will work, but you can try to use the embed code from youtube:
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="put the full url of the video here" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Paste this in the text editor.
Never tried that, but maybe it works. Who knows?

good question, the only other service I know of is a paid service called Vimeo.
It is more private than YouTube and you maintain copyright unlike YouTube.

This is great to know Angela! Thanks for sharing!
