Publish large videos or pictures bigger than 32 MB on my site.
I now want to show you how you can post video files, or pictures that are bigger than the normal Wordpress limit. At this moment, the limit is 32 megabytes.
I want to post video files on my website. For example videos I make myself related to soccer (for my psvsvp site) and for example mindmovies for my www.mindfollies.com site.
I soon found out there is a limit of 32 MB, and that is very small for video. I wanted to post a 40 MB file and got very frustrated not being able to do that. And that frustration is a good thing, because it means I will go on until it is fixed.
There is the Youtube and Vimeo option, where you first post the videos on that sites. And that can be benefical for rankings, I understand that. But if you want your videos and pictures to be not seen by the whole world, and keep it exclusively for your site, it is not the way to go.
I also think that it is a good idea that the searchengines think that I have a real original video that is linked to my own site.
And today it is fixed!
- Send the video file (or a big picture file) with an FTP program to your site. Put it in the \wp-content\uploads\2015\07\ directory (2015\07\ is the 7th month of 2015; this is of course subject to change). Next month will be ....\2015\08. Or you can chose to put it at another directory like 2014\04\.
- Go to your website and add a plugin. Search for "add from server" plugin by Dion Hulse. Install and activate.
- Select the plugin and click on "import files". Then browse to the directory and select the file(s) you just uploaded with ftp. And then click on the "import" button. You have two options: set the date to the current time, or use the date of the file itself.
- Now you can use a post, or make a new post and now you can insert that big file (in my case 40 MB) in your post.
- See for example: http://www.mindfollies.com/mind-pictures/mindmovie... where I put the 40 MB file, that is now streamed from my site.
