Is Wealthy Affiliate Worth the Effort?
It has been awhile since I have written anything on my website, or answered any questions, or made any comments. The last time I wrote anything was in April. Interestingly enough, a few people are stopping by and reading an article, and that is encouraging.
I intend to pick up where I left off very soon. However, I haven't been on vacation. I've been finishing up a very big project that I started last summer. It was a project that was close to my heart and was taking much longer than I had thought it would.
I now can put the title "author" behind my name. We all start Wealthy affiliate knowing it will entail much writing before we achieve our goals. Somehow I always knew I should be writing. Too many stories ran through my head constantly, prompting me to write them down.
Problem has always been trying to figure out how to tackle the daydreams (as I call them). Writing has always been a physical problem for me. My handwriting is abysmal-nobody can read it- not even me sometimes. I'm left-handed and in school I had trouble writing certain letters and numbers the "right" way. I wrote some backward or the "left" way complained my teachers.
My mother finally figured out how to correct my writing to please my teachers. It was a simple "fix." She had me turn the paper in the opposite direction from right handers. It worked.
The computer has been my salvation. Even though I make a lot of mistakes, they are easily corrected. My mother started teaching me how to play the piano when I was five and I learned how to make both hands work together and separately.
So, finally I have written my first book. (PM me if you want to know about the book). It was part of the plan in my head to be able to say I am an author before making a run at writing a novel about my family.
I have been working on my family tree for several years and have ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War (United States), and settled the state of Ohio. I have been gathering material and researching for some time and am now beginning to write sections of the story. Weaving all this together is the challenge.
Those of you who are wondering if wealthy affiliate is worth your time, effort, and money--I can assure you that it is. You may not end up where you thought you would, but if you get nothing more than the discipline of working toward a goal and acquiring the tools to work with--you have received full value for your money and time. I have been with WA since 2018. I'm 89 and I do not intend to quit. I still learn something new everyday. and so can you.

Hi Barbara,
Congratulations on becoming a bona fide author. Way to go. It is never too late in life to accomplish something you've always wanted to do.
It sounds like you have important things to write about that can help people understand US History from a personal perspective. And be entertaining at the same time.
I'd love to know more about your book.
Cheers.
Edwin
I'll send you information on my book in a private message sometime today. Thank you for asking.
Just doing the research on family members is fascinating. But it does eat up the days.
What a fantastic attitude. To me it sounds like you have won already. The skills you have acquired are very positive and I hope you continue on at WA for many more years.

Wow! I'm so impressed! I'm just 83 -- will be 84 in a month -- how nice to meet someone on here older than me -- or, for that matter, anyone older than me!
I understand how you feel about writing. I have always wanted to be a writer, and guess what? Now I am one, like it or not. It's been fun for me to see my words in print...even though have published 5 books. Dreams can become reality.
Hope your book is quite successful, and brings you much joy.
Congratulations on writing a book Barbara...that sounds so interesting. I can imagine it must have consumed a lot of your time! Your message is unbelievably inspirational. Thank you for sharing this.

My, my, my! You just wrote my current life story. I will be needing a sabbatical soon, so I can do the final edit and publish my 400- page historical fantasy novel with Book Baby and Amazon, I am so happy I read your post, and I am happy for you to have reached this pinnacle in your writing career. Yes, I agree with you about WA helping us to acquire discipline to finish the race/s. Oh, I am left-handed too, graduated high school 1961.
Seems like we have a lot in common. I'm still in the research stage for my family. I have two family trees: One based on Ohio Genealogy and the first one I started years ago, and that doesn't include searching for pictures so I have a long way yet to go.
I think the key to living a long life is to keep on working. Working at something. Never consider yourself "too old" to do anything. Oh the body may rebel, but the mind keeps going. We never stop learning.
Good to hear from you.
I agree, work like what we are presently doing, which is not only satisfying, but we can't quit-- and it may take a while to finish-- and after that we will have something new to start (if we haven't already started it) will keep us going quite a while. Whew.
