Social Media Marketing & Results - Is It Worth The Time And Energy?
Hi all of you wonderful people on WA.
So I am at the certification Training - Level 4: Lesson 7 of 10. And one of the tasks is to write a WA blog post.
So in the last couple of training sessions, I have been creating and posting on many different social media platforms, and I have felt a kind of a resistance inside of me.
This post is both some thoughts and some question especially to those that already have had success or at least can see that traffic is going the right way, with or without the use of social media.
The Potential
I am no social bird on social media (in real life I am:-) even though I have 5 Facebook pages and 5 Instagram accounts, that I have used for different projects. They have between 500 to 6000 followings with a fair amount of engagement.
Although they haven't made me a lot of traffic, I can see the difference on a 500 and a 6000 following account, and the potential if I could grow a 6000 following account to a 60.000 or a 600.000 following. But it takes a lot of time, and I do not enjoy it.
The thoughts - The 80%-20% Rule
Sometimes when I work on social media marketing I think of the Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto, how applied. The 80-20 rule is also known as the Pareto principle. If we translate it down business-wise, it goes something like this: " roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes" or "80% of sales come from 20% of customers."
What I am trying to say is that I sometimes get the feeling that I would be better to use the time and energy to improve the websites and create good content, instead of the time-consuming making and logging in and out of accounts tweeting, posting, pinning scheduling and pandering for new followers.
The Questions
I do get that it will improve googles love for my website but to what extent?
So the question to all of you who already have a sustainable business.
If you look at the time spent, on social media marketing, contra what it has brought you back in Google love or success, here are some questions.
I would be delighted if some of you could answer one or more of these questions
- Is it worth the time and energy?
- Could you have done it without social media?
- Witch social platform has been the best for you?
- Do you feel you wasting your time working on social media marketing?
- What method or routine has been the quickest and most efficient to gain followers and traffic to your website?
- Should I just shut up and get to work:-))
Have an awesome day:-)

Balthasar, thanks for sharing. I have social media accounts but am not really very active on them, however they seem necessary for this business.
I find Twitter the easiest to use as it's straightforward. Google+ will soon be gone and Pinterest is a bit challenging for me, but am going to make the effort to work with it.
Hi, and thanks for your comment. OK Twitter and Pinterest thanks again and have a wonderful day :-)
I have no idea, but like you don't enjoy it either and especially when my main followers are friends and family who are probably getting tired of my posts lol, I had boosted my fb bus page to send out ads on my behalf for $3 a day. I will see how that goes. All the best.
Hi, thank you then I am not alone:-)) I don't know if you need a business account for this one - But it is possible to create Facebook pages within your account, that your friends and family can't see. That way you don't have to worry about the feeling of spamming them. :-))
