Spam Blocking
Hi Everyone,
Just a short note to help the newbies on the auto spam blocking feature of WP-SpamShield.
I had asked for and received many comments from within WA without any issues so I naturally assumed that all comments on my site were coming through.
I had asked some friends and family to stop by and leave me a few comments as it helps me to rank better on Google. They all agreed but days went by and I saw no comment from any of them on any of my posts. Then I received an email from one of them telling me that my site was not allowing him to comment.
The message he got was telling him that I had set the spam filter to not allow any comments from behind a proxy server. I then asked a couple of others to let me know what happened when they tried to leave comments and the answer came back the same. Now I knew that the problem was not out there but internal to my site.
I checked and read all documentation on WP-SpamShield. and found the following check box was unchecked.
Allow users behind proxy servers to comment?
Many human spammers hide behind proxies, so you can uncheck this option for extra protection. (For highest user compatibility, leave it checked.)
So I checked it and proceeded to check if the comments would come through now and they did. Since I had not originally made the setting I recommend that you check this on your site so you can have interactive posts where people can leave comments.

Thanks so much for the info. I was definitely missing out on some good comments.
