Feeling Conflicted

So I am feeling a bit conflicted and because of it I feel like I have come to a screeching halt! I started Course 3 Lesson 1 yesterday and it asked me to do another post. So I decided to do another "Low Hanging Fruit" post and the subject I decided on was "Free Cake Decorating Books Online."

First off, I was shocked to find out that there was basically nothing. Several questionable sites claimed to have free cake decorating books but I was too afraid of the VTD's (Virtually Transmitted Diseases) my computer might get so I didn't try to download anything. But one book, the only one, that I found was a 2001 4-H book and it was just filled with great information. 80 pages about decorating tools, recipes, and step by step instructions. It looks like it was the manual/workbook for kids in 4-H who wanted to learn cake decorating. It comes with a full lesson plan and included the reading pages and pictures (black and white) of what you were learning. It is a resource that I am personally going to become very familiar with. Since I am self-taught and don't have money for classes, this is exactly what I look for when I am trying to learn new techniques and people like me are who I am targeting with my website.

So herein lies my conflict.

I want to share this amazing find with my audience because, like I said, this is something that I would want to have if I was learning something new. But at the same time, I am afraid that if I share this book then they won't come back because this is a great resource.

Then again, I believe I would go back to find out what else I could find because I would feel like that website was trustworthy. So maybe it would be the smart thing to do to add to that layer of trust. Maybe it will get whoever to sign up for an email subscription?

I guess the thought was, if I were to share it then they wouldn't come back and there would be no chance of making them into customers. Money always clouds your judgement and makes you selfish...that's what I'm feeling is selfish.

I know that if I could learn a ton from it then it will not only help me to become a better decorator and more of an authority in my niche, plus I could apply my new skills to my website by teaching it to others, but it could help others to gain a new level of skill.

So what are your thoughts on this? Has anyone else ever felt this way?

I would love some input and advice.

Thanks,

Amanda

s heAmanda, if a person comes to your site and you have something to share with the, share it as free info but set it up so that in order to get that info they must give their email address. This can be done through an auto-responder system. Once you have that address then you can do an email campaign with them. You want people to come to your site. The more they come the more you have your products in front of them.

No matter what you do you are winner if they come to your site. Keep promoting your site. Keep monetizing it and keep on growing your content. The time spent will pay off and you won't have to worry about the ones that come and go. Comments are always great, but you won't get those unless you ask as well. Not sure this helps but let me know if you need more info on the how to .

Thanks Manuel1947. I had thought about offering that as an incentive for email subscriptions but it is not my work, nor do I have permission from that company to give it out like that. I can share it because I found it online but I don't want it to look like it is my work.

You don't have to make it look like it is your work. Setup a picture so they can see it to click on it or write about it in a blog and point the link to an auto-responder so they can get it and send them to the authors site. You helping them find the information. There are very few people that have their own products in the way of information but are willing to give that information to others. For instance, I just put several e-books on a site and never wrote a one. They aren't mind . They just get the book and info and I get the email address to send it to them. Hope I am helping your concepts of online marketing some. What say you?

I understand what you are saying but have zero idea how to do that. Will something like that be covered in one of the lessons or is there a lesson on doing that somewhere else on WA?

Let me check.

I don't anything that specific. Here is first to get you started. Go to http://mailchimp.com and signup for an auto-responder. Then get back with me. Private message me so I can help you and not loose you on here. I will be gone for awhile but will check the message later and proceed from there. The auto-responder will be the best thing in your arsenal. Just let it be, let it be.
