How to add a Search Bar using Generate Press Theme

Now I have seen questions asked in the past about how to add a search bar on their website.

Note, that not all themes may have this option and for some may need a plugin to upload to your site.

If you are one of those then this video from Eric will help you with that.

However if you are using Free or paid version of Generate Press you can add a search bar to your site without the need for a plugin or coding which I will show you below.

In fact you can use this same method for other sections like categories and more even add the search bar to your header.

Adding a Search Bar to the Side Widget

Hear I will show you how to add a search bar within the right side bar but at I stated you can add it on any other section you have or use.

There used to be a simple toggle button to click which would show the Magigying glass which you would click then the search bar would show up but it seems this is no longer available with the free version at least no on mine. Perhaps it has been taken out or now only with the paid version since the latest update.

That is why this post.

As we cannot create training as before I will need to show it to you here with a step by step method.

Plus creating a video is only for the select few like the super affiliate so I can only do this as a blog.

So bear with me and let’s get started in 5 easy steps.

Step 1:

Log into your back office website you can so this via site manager or via the hubs.

Step 2:

Click Appearance.

Now you can go either way which is via clicking the customize button or clicking the widgets areas.

For now I will click the widgets and go from there or you can use the customize section if you wish as the same steps apply either way your choice.

Step 3:

Once you click widgets as shown below click the plus sign.

From here, type in the word search as shown below then click the search icon.

Step 4:

Now this will appear at the bottom of your sidebar. You have the option to move it to wherever you wish I prefer to have it at the top of the sidebar.

All you need to do is click the up and down button and keep clicking that until you get it where you want.

As I said in my case and I have seen many others have it at the top for easier access for your readers.

Step 5:

Once you have selected your position for the search bar the final step is to click update and refresh your website and Bingo all done.

You can visit your site and it should appear like below in my case at the top above the categories section.

Ok that’s it

You can also add categories and many other sections with the same method.

Just type in the word Categories instead of Search or whatever part you want to include on your Right sidebar or wherever.

You can even add your search bar to your header if you wish., instead of selecting right side bar scroll down and you will find header open that up and then type in search there and add it to your header then update as usual.

This is one of the great benefits of Generate Press and the many options you have.
