My First Video Podcast Interview

My sister and I took a significant step in our journey as content creators and pickleball enthusiasts. Having successfully channeled our passion for tennis into a YouTube channel dedicated to everything pickleball, we realized it was time to shake things up a bit. This isn't just about sharing tips and tricks on playing pickleball; it's also about deepening the connection with our audience.

Mix It Up: Shorter and Longer Content

In my opinion, the move from creating short, instructional videos to embarking on a longer-form video podcast interview was both necessary and timely. This leap allowed us to explore the narratives and personal stories that surround pickleball -- and who better to start with than a fellow teaching pro who has shifted her focus to exclusively play and teach this exciting sport of pickleball?

The process felt like arranging pieces of a puzzle. We made a loose script, ensuring we touched upon key aspects or friend’s journey from tennis to pickleball that would resonate with our audience. By scheduling our interview with a senior pro competitor who's also deeply involved in teaching the younger generation, we were set to add a vibrant chapter to our channel's story.

Using Streamyard, we captured a rich conversation that dived into her journey from tennis beginnings to pickleball passion, including the unique story of having a pickleball court built in her backyard, thanks to her husband. As she now commands the role of director of junior pickleball at Johnson Ranch Club in Sacramento, her insights proved invaluable not just to us, but to anyone looking to make a similar transition or start their journey into the sport.

And guess what? That hour-long interview turned out to be more than a compilation of expert tips; it became a repository of inspirational stories that can propel both newcomers and seasoned players into exploring new dimensions of pickleball. Our friend has met numerous top people and players in both sports, like Coach Dick Gould from Stanford to Collin Johns a pickleball highly ranked professional. Collaborating on our first podcast interview was exciting, enlightening, and a testament to the values of our channel: sharing helpful, expert-level content and growing the pickleball community, all while acknowledging our tennis roots.

Serving Up Success: Reflections on Our Maiden Video Podcast

So there you have it, we did it! We wrapped up our very first podcast interview, and I'm here to tell you, it felt as exhilarating as hitting the perfect third shot drop on the pickleball court. The transition from much shorter videos to a full-hour dive with our fellow teaching pro opened up a whole new way to connect with the pickleball community.

You might wonder, will everyone stick around for the entire episode? That's a valid question. Long-form content is a gamble, but it's one that could pay off big in terms of engagement and depth of connection. And we can splice up the larger content into many shorter pieces too, following well heeded advise of re-purposing content.

What really matters is the goldmine of wisdom we unearthed. Insights into the transition from tennis to pickleball, the heartfelt story of friends made through sports and the pure joy of passing on the paddle sport to kids - these are the gems that make our video conversation incredibly special.

Friends Collaborating

Embracing collaboration, we've now forged a pathway for shared audiences. This isn't just about boosting numbers of subscribers and growing viewing hours; it's about building a community that learns, grows, and plays together. This episode is our initial volley into a world rich with opportunity for connection.

Drawing on this first experience, we're already brainstorming how to enhance our future video podcast episodes. We'll refine our technique, just like perfecting a pickleball dink, to ensure our next interviews are even more captivating.

We can always adjust our approach down the road, find the balance between entertainment and education, and ensure our content serves the needs of our growing audience. Our first attempt won’t be our last. In fact, this is just the beginning.

Good morning Anne,

Thank you for your interesting blog post, Anne. It's great that you're stepping up your game.

I always think it's quite a big step when you go from short content to longer content. We seem to have very short attention spans in this day and age; however, if people are serious and the content is good, they should be able to listen all the way through.

It's interesting that you are using StreamYard. I haven't used it yet myself, but I have heard very good reports about how easy the software is to use.

I wish you continued success.

Roy

Thanks Roy! I am trying all kinds of content! Getting more viewing hours is one of the goals too! Thanks for you comments! Appreciate it!

It's a pleasure, Anne!

That sounds good! I'm not an expert on YouTube, even though I try to create YouTube videos regularly. But I have been told to experiment with content, like you are doing, and to analyse it to see what works best.

I find with my videos, some videos can get just a few views and others can get thousands, I'm still learning!

I wish you all the best in what you are doing and look forward to hearing about your progress.

A very happy Easter to you.
