Are Backlinks Still Important for Seo?

Hi every one it's been a while that I don't blog here, but I would like to share with you something related to Backlinks and SEO.

Backlinks are very important nowadays, backlinks will help your rank better.

That's also why top internet marketers like Neil Patel suggest building backlinks.

Kyle does not recommend backlinks he literally says they are not important anymore.

I'm starting to understand why Kyle says we shouldn't bother with backlinks.

He's very right.

Today I was doing some keyword research about a scam.

I had a look at the posts ranking on Google under the keyword I was researching.

Alex Sol and another WA member wrote great reviews about that scam but one person that was promoting a scam was on the first position.

That person review was like 200 words while Alex and the other WA member's posts were thourough and informative.

That guy's post was ranking number one simply because he had 1.6k backlinks (I checked on SemRush)

His post added no value and definitely did not deserve the first position regardless of the fact he's a scammer as he's promoting a program that promises too much money in 30 days

This only proved to me that Kyle is right about that the one should not focus on getting backlinks.

I am pretty sure Google one day will rank posts only based on the quality of the posts not backlinks.

Matt Cutts sort of said backlinks will become less important.

The Bottom Line

Google updates their algorithm very often

Poeple that use black hat techniques will be penalized

People that only rely on backlinks will be penalized

But people that only focus on QUALITY CONTENT will win forever.

That's why I think it's not worth it to try to build backlinks, let them come naturally.

This is my opinion

Any feedback or opinions are very welcome

Anis

I wanted to say thanks for sharing this. Getting more backlinks has been one the issues I have been meaning to work on, and I do think, as stated in the video, that it is somewhat important for now. But I take my writing seriously and I try to write very valuable content. I think it is wrong to give a person with a 200 word post about a scam over a thoroughly written post about a legitimate program like Wealthy Affiliate.
In my niche, there has been a lot to learn, and I have only had my site up about 4 months. Already, I can tell my content is getting better than when I started. I think good content would have to ultimately win out over number of backlinks. That just seems crazy to me.

Hello
Thank you for sharing this information on Blacklinks. This is why I love the WA community- I love the helpers like you and many others. We learn from each other and can prevent time consuming errors and submit quality, effective information to reach our goals.
Continued success to you.

Hilali, I linked back and now I am getting comments that are promoting the sale of remedies in alternative health websites. I have not approved these, since I do not think they will be appropriate, even though I am coined as a forum. What are your thoughts on this, please?

Thanks, Lynne

I've watched Matt Cutts many times in YouTube, and every time he says unique, original, or quality content, I always wonder about myself whether I'm doing it right or not.

Well anyways, it doesn't hinder my writing groove as I will still continue to write the way I use to be. The only thing I hold on to is that I'm a genuine person, never interested in any unethical tactics or black hat stuff.

Anything that can be gamed to boost results, will be gamed by a lot of people, but will have it's days numbered. I think this may even be true eventually for SiteComments. It's another way to manipulate Google in a fake way. Okay, so comments are the hot thing at the moment, but backlinks were the hot thing years ago too. Backlinks were indeed recommended by WA years ago.

Google is always changing, everything is always changing. Who knows how things will be in another 10 years. Google has not even existed for 20 years yet. Maybe Google will not exist at all in 20 years, who knows.

Hi, Marcus I was wondering too about SiteComments and ranking manipulating.

If Backlinks are an easy way to trick Google rankings so are comments?

This will probably change like you said and probably WA will ditch it like what happened to street articles.

Yes. Of course, the official word is that it's fine. That's because they want you to keep using SiteComments. And it's fine to use it. Just be aware it might not be effective forever.

Comments are good even though it wouldn't affect Google ranking. It builds trust and shows that a page is active when there are some comments. Today I read a blog post that had almost 1,000 comments on one post. It built a huge trust. So comments are not only for Google. However, I am getting most of my organic traffic on articles where I have lots of comments.

But would you still have the same trust for that website if you later found out that all of those 1,000 comments were fake comments gained from a comment exchange system?

Isn't it a bit like having fake testimonials?

I'm 100% sure those comments 1,000 are only from organic search.

Recently I don't get WA comments on my posts, especially on my reviews, how to posts and lists posts are where I get comments from WA.

It really does not make sense to me to get WA comments on a review about a scam for example.

I agree to some extent. You can rank without backlinks. I personally do not concentrate on backlinks. But occasionally, I do build some, in a forum profiles, in a comment sections, or I will reach out to other site owners when appropriate. When I say occasionally, maybe I have 50 posts and I built like 5 backlinks. Spamming for backlinks is not the way. The backlinks need to be on quality sites and also sites dealing with subjects related to yours.

That's fine I personally prefer not to build any.

Backlinks from comments carry no value now, guest posting, forum profiles, broken links strategy are the ideal ways to build backlinks.

Not that I build these everyday or even month but I am curious how do you know backlinks from comments carry zero value? Do you have proof?

Yes

You're confusing black-hat backlinks with backlinks in general. Spam sites with spammy links are not a long term venture but quality sites with quality links have the best chance to rank.

The reason Kyle doesn't recommend them is because WA is a very beginner-centric community and he knows that people will just go out and spam their sites with cheap fiverr links and cry when their sites don't rank. At the same time, if you just focus on good content and finding low-competition keywords, eventually your site will rank anyway, so his advice isn't exactly wrong, even though quality backlinks move the dial faster than anything else I've seen.

Hi Dom thanks for your comment but I am not confusing black hat backlinks with backlinks in general.

I know perfectly the difference, I did not say Kyle is wrong, I said the exact opposite.

All I said in this post is I'm not going to chase backlinks even quality ones I will just focus on writing quality content since I am going to rank anyway.

Backlinks used to be a real pain to me. I was never good at getting them. I'm so grateful that I don't need to worry about them now. Working on improving the quality of content is so much more rewarding, and the benefit of the content is easily seen as opposed to finding which backlinks worked, or didn't work!

Thanks Anis for your blog. Enjoyable reading!

There is a mixed review over this, however if backlinks are from a high trust flow site in your niche then they are good. Do a backlink test and you will see then you have an auto backlink to Wealthy Affiliate which is a good thing if you are an affiliate for them.

I know when I search Google and look at results, I don't automatically click on the very first item. I look at the quality of the result and scan through at least the first page. So getting #1 just isn't that great. Getting on the 1st page is super - you want that for sure. But beyond that . . . meh. I can't imagine you'll get any revenue from it when the site quality is so poor.

Good point Don, but the truth nowadays people that have backlinks have an unfair advantage but I don't think this will last for a long time.
