The new norm
Good day folks! Hope we are all well and coping with 'the new norm, whatever that will be' and when that will re-start (Hopefully fairly shortly). Once matters return, to what? That notwithstanding, whatever and wherever normal is, Society will need everyone's products and services again. Lot of catching up to do. A lot to get to grip's with...........How will the different sectors 'bounce back'
How will Company's react?
How will People react?
How will the Economy react?
The Retail sector will be glad to open it's doors - (Hopefully) no more stampede's at sale time as probably we will have a '6 month sale' with retailers keen to offload 'dated stock' items (Us brit's LOVE bargains - even if we don't need them! With likely 'one way systems and social distancing measures ' employed, so successfully, by the large supermarkets during Lockdown, Shopping will become a more leisurely and time consuming venture. Capacity will likely be lowered , at any one time to meet enhances safety measures, will this mean longer opening times for all to benefit from? - The New Norm
Transport - (Hopefully) Rush hour congestion will be a thing of the past, with less people flooding into Towns and Cities to get to their 9 to 5 office jobs. With more 'work from home' , now the new norm, congestion (Should) be partly eliminated. Airports, will most certainly change - 'The New Norm' will likely lead to 4 hour, rather than 3, suggested check in times, again enhanced cleaning and sanitisation measures, longer queues in toilets, more hand washing, but is something we will all need to adapt to - 'The New Norm'!
Restaurants & Pubs - traditional traits of certainly 'The English' have been hit hard by the Covid 19 epidemic. The value we place on 'our Ale' has never been more pronounced - I for one are fed up of 'tinnies' and can't wait for the moment I grasp that first pint up 'the local', will be pure heaven. Food also , with many Pub/restaurants closing, other than for 'take away's', will be aching to open again. But this will be different, due to social distancing - fewer tables, no visiting the bar for drinks, one way systems in establishments (?), what about the smaller pubs , bars and restaurants - how will that affect their profitability, which let's face it, without it, their is no pub, bar or restaurant. The larger chains will become more prevalent, gulping up the smaller, more friendly places, we have grown to love , appreciated the more 'personal attention' you get, but that's that - The fact of the matter is, until firm leadership from the Government, smaller outlets must be wondering and pondering their futures - 'The New Norm'
Offices - Everyone is going on about, certainly on LInkedin pages of 'protective screens, safe distancing gizmo's' and 'sanitisation products' - NEVER have/has 'WE' been so conscious of hand washing. How this will pan out remains to be seen - certainly will there be a need for the big office , will there be a further resurgence in the serviced office sector for small SME's, Individuals? - What will happen to the 'Cafe Society' so recently encouraged (To eliminate Offices, overheads)? - How will this effect the large commercial fit -out /refurbishment Companies , who will no doubt once again look at the smaller tryp of works we are likely to see more prevelant, short to medium term. Who knows what 'The New Norm' will bring.
Whatever, niche of market we rely on nowadays, is and will be subject to dramatic changes which will obviously evolve over time. Lockdown has given Society a chance to look at itself, to reflect and appreciate work, the hustle and bustle, 'we' have become akin to , but above all FAMILY considerations. The family unit has become more 'fashionable again', society has become more tolerant, more appreciative of the things we , previously, took for granted, money, flash cars, large houses, Rolex watches, the latest mobile 'gadgetry' have lost their power. - 'The New Norm'
Walking, cycling in family groups or individually, good old fashioned exercise has made a dramatic comeback. Families have been hit hard in Lockdown, especially Mum & Dad, who need more care and attention than most. Mother's day, when Mum's are made to feel special 'went' - Birthdays 'went' - Family get togethers 'went' - Funerals 'went' (In severely limited numbers only) - cuddles left hanging, kisses hanging, - 'The New Norm'
'We' are more appreciative of things we took for granted, The NHS a prime example. Not since the 2nd World War has their been a need for our Healthcare System -the nurses, doctors, care workers, indeed anyone associated with Health. Often decried as outdated, understaffed and underfunded, EVERYONE connected with the healthcare system has stepped up to the plate - they are 'today's frontline hero's and heroine's. We have 'clapped' for weeks in their honour and rightly so. It has also made the population THINK more, do I need to go to A&E with a throbbing this or that, Do I need to visit the Doctor's for minor complaint's that in the 'old days' we laughed at. Never need the Heath System be over run again, with this new thinking. One must hope that this benefits everyone from now on - 'The New Norm'
One thing , for sure, the advantages of the internet has enhanced itself, these past 3 months of Lockdown. Home deliveries of food have become popular, (For some, a necessity, not just from the Supermarkets, but the 'new healthy' options available online to today. Fresh produce, locally grown (They say), measured portions, Exercise Video's popping up everywhere, all types of sites aimed at home schooling nowadays, videos for this, for that, well indeed for eveything - you name a niche there are videos coming at you from every angle. Sales Funnels, E Books, Marketing materials by the bucketload. The internet has most certainly NOT stopped - 'The New Norm'
What say you?
