Blind leading the blind

I know I have a few people that read my blog entries. I doubt there is any inherent value in them for anyone else, but I like writing them so that I can look back over my progress and see how far I've come. I'm a different person than I was a month ago!

As a newbie to this whole "creating a website of value" thing, I do have a bit of advice to share from my (limited) experience thus far. Something I've inadvertently done right and noticed some others doing wrong (or maybe I should say "less efficiently".)

I've been studying the people here who have created valuable websites. When I say valuable, I mean that they provide value to people AND they make money. That's the kind of site that I want. Because one without the other is doomed to not be sustainable. At least not for me.

It's really not a life-changing observation for any of you. You've all read it before. But to me, this might be the difference between making it and giving up.

Follow each lesson and perform the actions of that lesson before you move on.

That's it. You might "think" you already know what the lesson is teaching you about, but that doesn't mean that it isn't a valuable and necessary step in your development. All of the lessons build on each other, and if you skip one and think "I'll just go back to that later", you may never get back there. Or things on your site won't make sense. Or Kyle will say something in the video that is JUST the nugget of insight you needed. It's happened to me several times.

Some steps are harder than others. I was trucking along at about a lesson a day, and I've been on my current lesson for five days! I have a bit of writer's block, I've been busy with my "real" job (that I'm trying to get rid of), and this step just hasn't come naturally to me. I'll get it, but I REFUSE to move on until I do. I've seen others skip steps and ask questions they should know the answers to (if they had just READ the lessons and WATCHED the videos) and I don't want that to be me. I don't mind asking questions if I can't find what I'm looking for, but so far my lessons have had 99.9% of the information I need to complete the step.

Stop reinventing the wheel. Just follow the lessons. Ask anyone here who does this full time and I think they will tell you the same thing.

I'm definitely the blind leading the blind, but those who have gone before me know what they are talking about. So trust them. That's what I'm doing.

Much love and creative content,

Aim

Hi. Amy good post, with some great points.

You know from time to time we will encounter a member who will question why we say, follow the lessons, in the prescribed order, and claim it is poor advice,

The fact is, almost everything you need is in the lessons, and anything you need to expand on, can be asked, but we get so many people jumping the gun, not reading the texts, skipping the videos, etc. It is clear to those who have been around a little while, that they have not done it

The best advice you can give, is the advice you have put here, do the lessons, in the prescribed order, miss nothing out and ask if you are stuck, but don't waste our time because you cannot be bothered to put the effort in yourself and expect the rest of us to figure it out for you.

We even see folks asking if they can miss lesson X and of course, the irony of this is, you will only know if you can miss it once you see what's in it, so just accept you need to do them all.

The other one that winds me up, is the ranters, who come and have a moan and whinge because it is not what they expected, not that there is anything wrong with their perspective of course, and they act like somehow they have been conned out of $0...and then offered a better than half price deal for $19 so you can get the full measure of WA, outrageous.

I think you talk a lot of sense Amy and I do not consider you one of the 'blind', you have worked very hard to make your mark and learn all you can, and this shows.

I myself, have at least one eye open usually and can see out of it.

Best wishes

Neil

Ha!

Thanks for your comment Neil. Saying that I'm not one of the blind actually means a lot to me. I have been working my tail off at completing the lessons and learning from my forefathers here. The blogging alone has taught me a ton of the nuances that I haven't run across in the lessons.

I think that anyone complaining about the cost of WA has never tried their hand at building a successful website outside of the system. I spent $3,000 on a system that taught me plenty of useful things but didn't make me a penny. I spent over $1000 on trusting a guy to build something for me. I wouldn't say I've been conned by any stretch of the imagination. Knowledge can be costly. But the return on my investment has yet to be realized. I've learned more for my first $19 in 30 days than I did with both of those programs combined. I will gladly send off my yearly payment to Kyle and Carson in small unmarked bills if that's what they require. The cost of this program is laughable for the knowledge you attain (and the friendships you make, old pal).

I'm not going to get myself too worked up over the work ethic of others who don't appreciate this system. Instead, I'm going to be as helpful as I can to others who are reading and working the lessons, and I'm going to keep building content and sharing so that my own website grows into something valuable.

Cheers to the success of everyone who really wants it!

I agree completely...don't skip steps. Some of them are harder than others but it's those lessons that are difficult for us to get through make the most impact, it seems. Onward, Amy!
Sue

Agreed! When you look at successful websites, you see those things in action. So dig deep and get it done! Thanks Sue!

Spot on ...skipping through is actually a waste of valuable information. The course outline is there for one reason..to teach.

Thanks for this.

You're welcome!

Good job! Press On!

Great post, I thought I was going to do a lesson a day too, but I've been on Lesson 6 of Bootcamp Course 1 for a week now. I started the Bootcamp in late January!
I haven't been as focused as I should have been, having spent alot of time interacting, commenting and writing a few blogs (good ones I like to think!) but notwithstanding that I feel I could still have progressed faster than I have.
This technical stuff is completely new to me and when I've got stuck I've always tried to get to the solution myself rather than immediately go to live chat and post questions (I've only posted one). Doing that has been invaluable in my learning process.
You're absolutely right about not skipping steps. I've replayed the training videos several times and taken notes. It's our direction rather than our speed that is going to determine our success in the long term, after all.
Thanks for sharing a very helpful and insightful post, Amy :-)
Rich

Thanks Rich! I love how you put that. "It's our direction rather than our speed that is going to determine our success in the long term." I think you are absolutely right!

I've been there myself it's hard for me working twelve a day cause the last thing I want to do is watch a video and read but I'm going to try harder myself!

I definitely think it's worth the effort!
