Stop Wasting Time!
What have you been doing for the last few minutes, or the last hour, two hours, etc?
Have you been hopping around Wealthy Affiliate, checking in on people and enjoying the social aspects of this community? Or maybe checking your accounts at Google+, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Webmaster Tools, Analytics and Adsense, then checking your Google rank just to see if anything changed?
That eats up a lot of time, doesn't it?
What about your website, and the content you're supposed to be creating?
How much progress have you made on it today, or even this week?
If you're like me, you've been wasting more time "playing" than building your business. Yes, I'm just as guilty as you are, so I'm writing this to slap myself in the face with a wake-up call to get down to business.
In my opinion, at least 75% of the total time spent doing anything even remotely related to this business should be dedicated to writing content for our websites. That builds our businesses, and that's why we're here. Sure, we need to pop in and help each other periodically, but we don't need to hang out and socialize nearly as much as we do. It eats up precious time that could be put to better use by creating more content.
You may or may not agree. That's fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
I just needed a wake-up call, and some of you probably do, too, so I decided to do it publicly.
Now it's "nose to the grindstone" with some genuine content creation - with all browser windows closed so I won't be tempted with distractions. If you see me back here again today, other than to ask for help or post a link to my new content in the Give and Take Comment Thread, call me on it!

Yea I agree. I'm bad about socializing on FB here lately. But alot of the blogs I read are business related, so mostly I'm reading and learning anyways.

Well, I managed to stop myself from "playing" on wealthy Affiliate for the rest of the day yesterday, and actually made some progress on keyword research. However, there were several times I had to resist the temptation to log in and see what was going on.
I think my wake up call was a few days ago when I realized, like Howie (HoJo007) said, I was treating Wealthy Affiliate like Facebook, looking around with a social mindset rather than being productive or truly helping someone.
I did pop in to post a keyword question, but that's in the productive category. More work to do today.

Great blog Bart. I will try to keep this in mind as I am an excited newbie and like to see how my progression is coming along. I figure if I don't worry about my progression and focus on producing content for my site and sharing blogs on WA daily. I will be reaching my goals before I know it. Have a good one.
Thanks buddy! That's exactly what I have been doing and very guilty of it. I just have minutes at time throughout the day with all my three kids being home from school. So I have time to peak in and out socially. But need to work on my 1st website. Going to hit the training hard as soon as September hits.
Thanks again Bart! That is exactly what I had to hear to wake me up. Thanks for the 3rd time for the slap in the face! LOL!
Can not wait to get working on it.

A-Men, brotha! It is like you just crawled inside my brain and pulled out my own thoughts. I too have been guilty from time to time of doing the same. Like you said, we all have! I am all about community and helping one another out. Without question, it serves its purpose and provides value. However, we must all schedule a time to do these things and not spend all of our precious time socializing, while our competition continues to move ahead. It is SO easy to get easily distracted here and end up wasting away your day using this site more like Facebook than developing our websites and expanding our businesses. All of that time adds up an pushes us further and further away from our goals. So, it's important to remember to actually "DO." Take care of your business, take care of your website first and foremost and then wind down in the community and give and receive advice and tips where you can. The more success you actually achieve, the more valuable help you will actually be able to offer!
I have kicked myself quite a few times for falling into this trap. There is no worse feeling than looking at the clock and seeing 10PM and realizing you virtually got nothing accomplished. So much time wasted that could be used creating content or utilizing the training and courses and taken appropriate notes and more importantly, taking ACTION! With all this being said, I am off to work on my business. I will be back after the top priorities have been completed. We are truly our own worst enemy sometimes. Thanks for sharing and reminding me I need a kick in the rear myself! All the best and much success to you and everyone else in the WA community!
We all need to get our butts in gear I guess. I haven't been able to focus lately. I don't know what my problem is. Maybe I need to stop in and get me a little Brandy!! It's been a few weeks lol

It's crazy because when I'm up doing things like cleaning or out and about with the kids, I have all these ideas running through my mind. And then as soon as I get in front of the computer all those ideas get pushed aside. I don't know if it's because I have so many ideas and I don't know where to start. I really need to focus and write things down in a to-do list or something.
