Product Reviews and Lessons Learned

My first experiences were good and bad, here is why...

In the beginning of joining WA, I was not a computer or social media person. I'm an outdoorsy type of gal. Tho, I liked to study and write so it suited me. Figured I would just focus on learning and getting through the training.

I did some promoting on FB, (per recommended in the training) just enough to get a couple people signed on under me so I could learn that aspect of it.

Then, I got to work again following the training, learning and reading so many articles from others as well as getting in some "Jay" videos.

During this time, the training had me keeping my focus and kept me held accountable. If I was not sure about something in the training, I asked the community for help and then studied and researched the platform to make sure I understood what was working for others.

During this time, my website had been gaining Googles trust and then one day, I earned a few hundred and was like, what? My website had made it to the first 3 pages in Google and then it made it first in line, top page, top search results!

I was excited and I knew then that this does work. Focus is definitely the key. That website was one to promote WA. My earnings was from people signing up under me. I wrote a post on here about it. The thing my site was missing? Those all important product reviews. I think I reviewed a tablet and a computer or something and that was it.

To sum it up...

In my early days, I had a website get to the top of the page following the training. I had little to no product reviews because I was too focused on making it a WA promo site. It did bring me some referrals but if I had product reviews, I would have likely made bank and then some!

That was my first site.

Lesson learned

Note to self: No matter what kind of website it is, I think at least 40% should be product reviews. Yes they take more time and research but gotta put in the work to make money, it is so totally worth it!

Another tip: Product reviews don't work well unless you do it the way we are taught here!!!

I tried the lazy way and created one post talking about one or two items at a time. That does not work LOL.

Customer and Google Trust

The customer needs to feel that they are getting enough info to make a decision and buy!

Google trusts you when you provide the customer with sufficient information!

The customers ready to buy, are the ones who have learned and thought it over a few times before they get to your site. They have seen ads and have done some research.

A person ready to buy, unless impulsive, has sat on the idea for a while, maybe even months! They get to your product review and see that you too have done the research for them, they think, yea OK I think I'm ready to make this purchase.

They do not need a sales person or any convincing, they need info ;) I had to learn that the hard way LOL. We can read that in the training and thru the platform here but it did not make sense to me. It did not sink in. I wanted to be lazy! Took a while but I learned firsthand what it meant.

A Little Story:

So I was in my early 20s working at Bath and Body works. I loved it. They sent us home with any sample we wanted with the idea in mind that if we tried it, learned the product, and got familiar with it, that when the customers would come in those doors, we would be better able to help them and make a sale. It worked, most of the time.

Okay, so in making sure I did my job correctly, when there was no customers to help, I was memorizing the info and ingredients from every label of every product on their shelf. If someone came in looking for something very specific... "honey scented with oats and Shea butter", heck, I knew right where to send them!

I went even further by engaging conversation, learning the customer and helping them discover what their best option in the store was.

Instead of just pointing and referring them to something I thought would work for them, I personally introduced them to multiple things in the store that would suit their needs. I would start small with the "testing out samples" and work my way up to the big ticket items such as the gift baskets.

Then, I would kindly walk away letting them know I'm available for any questions. This would give them their time and personal space to explore and choose what purchase they felt good about. It was important to be available for that customer as well as others walking thru the door. It was important for them to have time to explore too.

Note to self: Selling a product to a customer standing right in front of you, is both personal and business. Treat your website customers to the same experience if possible with great, thourough product reviews! This is how to make money on your website!

Return Customers

Building an email list of your customers is a MUST!

When the customer was ready to purchase, we would create them an account so they could get emails with special offers, just for them! #Building an email list.

There was always one last thing to offer and a "hook" to keep them coming back. The last offer was big fun discounts on trial sizes "easy to carry around and share with others" and of course, a pamphlet full of "coupons for their next visit".

Oh yeah, and when I bag it all up to go, I throw in a couple tiny goodies for them to try too! That being samples of up and coming products that we will soon have available for purchase.

Note to self: Loyal customers are happy consumers.

ROI and Commission

Now, a lot of customers thought I was working on commission since they had such a one on one great experience, though, no one there worked on commissions. I was making like $7.45 an hour! Ha, which was just above minimum wage.

Through my hard work and dedication, I did quickly get noticed, promoted, and offered more responsibility.

The job of manager was in my future! The job of running my own BBW store!

Keys to my own little shop!

Unfortunately, it was bad timing as I had just gotten married that year and had to inform them that I was 2 months pregnant and would be choosing to quit soon to become a stay at home mother "my dream job" ❤

Note to self: A little extra effort goes a long way!

My point is, that job experience can be applied to what we do on our websites. The great part is, after we spend time to learn and inform our customers on products we are reviewing for them, they feel good about making a purchase and we basically get paid commission's! Everybody wins!

Note to all of you: The more you learn and share with your customers, the more you become an expert in your business. Provide information to HELP your customers and choose to be passionate as Kyle and many others have taught us here.

We are affiliates so choosing good companies/products to promote will help turn your blog into an efficient website business!

Question to the QA community

Do you think a website with 40% product reviews is a good amount to have? What is the winning formula? Product review posts vs pages?

Absolutely, you too :)

Will do!😎👍

I totally agree with the 40% benchmark for reviews. However, the informative blogs are the ones that bring your customers back. They must be good enough to capture the readers interest and have them wanting for more. Jim

Yes Jim, thank you. The informative blogs do bring your customers back for sure! Glad you agree with the 40% for reviews.

Great post. -40% Of the website having review posts is good.

Hi Anusuya,
Glad you enjoyed the post. It takes a while to do the review posts and 40% sounds intimidating but it can be done. Glad you agree. :)))

Thanks for commenting, it sure helps.
